Hi all,

Hubby and I will be returning on VA2 back to SYD early August next year - will be departing on a Friday night, arriving Sunday morning, 6.15am.

We will then have to get a domestic flight from SYD to MEL. This will be on a completely seperate ticket to the LAX-SYD flight.

Wondering how long we should leave between flights ? After a 15hr odd flight, don't want to hang around waiting for the domestic flight for too long, but also don't want to have to rush, or even risk missing it.

So..........

1. Personal experiences of "on time" arrival for VA2 ?
2. Is there anywhere I can look that actually tracks "on time performance" ? Have "googled" but nothing is jumping out at me.
3. Thoughts on how long to leave between arriving on VA2, collecting luggage, clearing customs, getting to domestic terminal etc etc.
4. Once we book our domestic tickets - is there any value in ringing VA and getting them to make a note that we will be coming in on VA2 ??? Would they even do this ????

We will be travelling in PE on the way back (couldn't get J) - I am Plat with VA, so should get "Express Passes" for arrival in SYD.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers,

Brooke

I've gone from Y to landside in about an hour.

Fog in Sydney in August is a consideration.

From what I've seen here, you've got less to worry about compared to if you were flying LAX - BNE on VA.

VA2 on-time statistics is 81% with average delay of 9 minutes and std deviation of 12.78 minutes.

Again, as others have said, past performance is not a reliable indicator of future performance and if on separate tickets, would suggest that you have sufficient time to be able to handle delays or even just a very crowded SYD customs hall due to many flights arriving at near same time in the morning.

Alternatively, get a ticket that is not too expensive to reschedule at the last minute.

I've been 2 days late after two broken down aircraft LAX to Sydney. But would be happy to simply buy another ticket if I'm back in Australia and missed a flight.

Why not put it on the same booking?

Matt

As you are VA Plat book a flight that has plenty of connection time and just use fly forward at check-in. With SYD to MEL frequency you shouldn't have any issue securing a good connection time.
