VA11 / VA12 - MEL-LAX-MEL J Ret - SS UNDERWHELMING

No - it was made in Champagne, can't argue with that.

Look, to me it is a very poor choice of bubbles; that's what I'm saying. I wouldn't try and associate the label with the descriptors I used if I only felt it was slightly inferior.

It was loaded in SQ J for a few years in the 90's.....it was alright then to the masses.

A dry crisp taste, from a smaller House.

Oh one interesting little tit-bit I forgot to add in this thread was lounge experience dep MEL.

No doubt you are all aware VA use NZ lounge in MEL - and no doubt many of you are aware entry to NZ lounge is via escalator situated right outside SQ lounge in MEL.

Rita is the lady who seems to work front desk of SQ lounge 24/7 - she is just always there. Thanks to idea from Bossreggie I now buy 4 small chocky bloxs for the lounge ladies in SQ lounge - there is Rita on front desk and 2 ladies inside servicing both F and J lounges.

I always buy 4 for the 3 on duty and Lana is my favorite so I leave the extra one for her if she not on duty.

If I am in J the chocky gets me the champers from F lounge instead of Aus vinegar they serve in J.

Done so many F and J flts ex MEL last year or 2 am on first name basis with all lounge ladies. So on Sept 13th when I was on VA 11 Rita spots me as I am about to go down escalator - calls me over and asks what's doing? Explain I am off to USA on VA and not flying with SQ that day - no problem she says - come into SQ F lounge and wait flt there instead of NZ lounge downstairs.

Thanked her a million but said I would not impose - did the right thing and went down to NZ lounge. Almost like anytime access with SQ.

Jeez I love SQ - have I ever mentioned that before? Jeez I love SQ!

Cruiser, you may want to do a bit of editing on the email you posted. Your first name and surname are visible in the text.

Probably should have edited but no biggie - I have nothing to hide - VA are well aware of my real name and Velocity number - it's all good.

MEL-LAX / LAX-MEL = VA11 and VA12 now.

Next year MEL-LAX / LAX-MEL = VA23 and VA24 - identical dep / arr time.

Why would flight numbers be changed?

Why would flight numbers be changed?

Usually for reshuffling numbers / re-sequencing, or to avoid bad karma (e.g. if a flight crashes, the flight designator on that route is customarily changed).

Apart from that, at least from a customer perspective, who cares!

Oh .......... so you - as a customer - would not care if airlines willy nilly changed flight numbers any time they wanted to - annually / weekly / daily - who cares huh?

It was a dead serious question - I thought maybe like there might have even been a second daily flight proposed ex MEL or some other valid reason - see - I care.

What difference does it make? Plane still flies the same route, yes? Seems almost obsessively trivial to be upset or angered that the flight number has changed!

Well I cared so much I contacted VA direct - their interesting response:

Dear Mr Elite,

VA11 and VA12 are indeed the same flights which will now operate as VA23 and VA24 although we are not quite sure why our Business has decided to change the flight numbers.

On a side note - please advise Mr anat0l and Mr The Rok that their flippant and insensitive responses to your genuine and intelligent query are not appreciated.

As punishment they will be allocated seats immediately adjacent to rear lavatory for
ALL future bookings on VA.

If you have any further enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact us again!

Kind Regards

As per anything aviation related - I am sure the reason is operational...

Not that they ever release the reasons behind operational reasons...

Could there not be special arrangements made for seating the in the lavatory? Surely seat belts can be provided for such special guests :)

Flew QF J to LAX last month and had a great flight over.

Nice wine list, but by the time I'd had my meal and dessert I'd over indulged and felt I wouldn't be the best in the morning if I sampled some of the scotches they had.

Only disappointment was I missed out on the 100 day aged steak, but the blue eyed cod I had was so nice and the wine with it really left me feeling quite satisfied.

My first J flight in a long time so maybe I'm easy to please, but had some great food, nice wines, got to meet a couple of nice old gals off on another adventure together at the club in Syd who entertained me with their stories over some lattes.

I flew VA PE in 2009 and had a great experience, but the Y flight I did a year later left me unimpressed.
