VA transfer to SQ 1.35:1 VA

As mel-world mentioned, the VA FF number needs to be associated with the SQ booking. VA SC earn on your base SQ "J" paid ticket is assured, even if you subsequently upgrade to first using your Kris flyer miles. You will only receive VA "J" SCs, which are the same for Business/First depending on distance. You do not receive any VA Plat "bonus" points for your sectors, because your sectors are on a SQ ticket, only base distance points flown. Importantly, for VA Plat re-qualify, note that no VA sectors are credited. Summary: VA S/C earn in "J", points on distance - no VA bonus points as VA plat, no VA sectors. Enjoy SQ "F" if you can upgrade with your SQ Miles that you may have transferred across from VA . Cheers, PJ

Just wondering, isnt their a T&C that if Krisflyer points are used as part of payment no points may be earned. would that not mean that all things will be forfeited...

Can someone post a link to SIA where I can find out how many points is needed to book flights?

Hubby as about 380K points I would like to use to for Siem Reap but Ive not done a transfer/redeem before (VA has his permission for me to transact on his account).

thanks,

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

If it's an SQ flight, do a dummy booking on the website to confirm points (and taxes).

If it's a partner flight you need to look up the points grid on the web site (or call krisflyer, which you'll have to do to book anyway - they can also confirm availability).

Points charts are here - think there are separate ones for partner flights:

Indeed! In fact I think I saw something about a special with a 50% discount on points recently? Can't remember the details though.

I can't find anything about it now, and I'm sure there would have been all sorts of excitement about it... I think I must have been dreaming!

I have an SQ flight coming up booked J. Am plat with VA, looking for SC's as part of trip. If I move VA points to KF for an upgrade does that mean I will loose VA Points and SC's?

I'm assuming you have purchased a SQ "revenue" J ticket for your up coming SQ flight VA777, not an SQ or VA "award ticket" purchsed with points.

This takes you to the Kris Flyer redemption booking page
http://www.singaporeair.com/planBooking-flow.form?execution=e1s1

Check the box top left : award flights, then do your dummy booking

You will be prompted to enter your Kris Flyer account details.
Just to share that. SYD to REP via SIN throws up a long transit in SIN. You may consider trying to get upgrade or award ticket for SYD-SIN sector only.

I was looking to book a SQ reward seat on Velocity website and have found that they are now charging SQ fuel surcharges on SQ reward seats. Is it correct that now it would make most bookings cheaper to transfer points over to KrisFlyer then book with SQ?

From the AFF newsletter today it mentioned that as Krisflyer uses a zone rather than distance based award chart, there are certain routes where using VA points transferred to KF to book VA dom metal is cheaper thsn booking through Velocity, especially long Y legs like MEL-CNS (even losing the 35% in the conversion).
Has anyone crunched the numbers on this? Does KF impose YQ on VA metal?

This was intriguing! Had never thought of it. Here's the award chart if anyone's interested: http://www.singaporeair.com/pdf/ppsclub_krisflyer/charts/virgin-aust-award-mar14.pdf

Yes I was looking at this last night.

VA shows a trip like ADL - TSV something like 16000 VA points each way. Singapore shows 11000 KF each way.. I do not know other charges if any.

16000 VA = 11856 KF or 74.1% if you convert via the 2 programs.

What makes it beneficial is transferring from cards like Amex Platinum Edge where the program is 1 MR = 1 KF instead of transferring to VA at the same rate.

Edit - Checked a VA business reward fare in Feb 2016 ADL-TSV and is 33800 pts each way plus tax and KF chart shows 21000 KF each way plus any charges. It appears the J seats are even better value in this example
