Raising its head again slightly (@ABT) VA SYD to HGK ? Any thoughts ...anyone expecting anything to come out on Friday the 29th with the VA financials ? Could it be offered with known / expected VA fleet ?

The VS service on that route was a good way to burn points for me ....

If they use a Boeing aircraft, I will use it. Not holding out any hopes though.

cheers

Did XFA really leave the fleet or is it getting a new interior prior to starting international ops, certainly had a funny lease period in terms of duration if it is indeed gone.

Definitely think XFA is gone from the fleet, but would be very interested to see if VA starts a HGK service, would definitely be a good service due to Atlantic's departure from SYD

Do you have a link? Would love to connect VA/VS in Hong Kong.

Sorry to be so old & dumb, but what is XFA ?

cheers

The time is right..CX are champing at the bit for more capacity into Oz but are being held back because of JQHK. Probably would have to work as a stand alone destination to avoid taking traffic from European or asia code shares with EY and SQ..maybe there are some north asia routes they don't have VA code on with SQ?

I am surprised no one has brought it up that its supposed to HKG, not HGK.
HGK as an airport on google search does not bring up an airport by that code.

For Jay Cee: some of nearly a lot of the EK planes have onboard cameras that you can see the action of take off, inflight, and landing while sitting in your seat.
XFA has/had it, XFB has/had it, but seeing 1 of these has gone, and the other one going soon, but I have had my kick with the EK flight from CHC to SYD recently, with on board camera on the 777.

My late night mistake if a Mod can correct that would be good ...cheers

Already have. If anyone notices a typo please use the report post function on the bottom left of each post rather than go off topic, we can then fix and keep the conversation on topic. many thanks.

Given VA is reducing from 7 to 6 A330s, and has no new 777s I can't see this happening unless they start chopping other routes.

I hear you. 40,000 for Upper Class to HKG used to be my favourite redemption, with 5+ seats available on almost every flight!

And you wonder why VS cut the route.

As a VA Plat I also loved it. Was 4/4 for opup from PE and a great SC earn

I'm wondering the same thing ...

I cant see it happening. VA already has strong partner options on the kangaroo route in EY and SQ - I dont think they need another. VS couldnt make the route work, I'm not sure why VA think they could especially with such strong competition from the worlds best business class (CX). I also think its very unlikely VA would use their oldest plane (even refurbed) to launch their first major new intl 'premium' route in years - I think they would be more likely to take the 777 off SYD-AUH if they wanted to focus on HKG. They wouldnt have a new A330 on BNE-PER and an old A330 on SYD-HKG I wouldnt have thought.

I wonder if they considered XFA/B in its current layout to upguage any of its Asian/pacific leisure routes (DPS, HKT, NAN) etc. Obviously a 777 was the wrong fit, perhaps a cheap A330 would be better? The existing J on XFA/B would be comparable to the JQ A330 J - JQ make it work on leisure destinations, perhaps VA could?
