Raising its head again slightly (@ABT) VA SYD to HGK ?

Where exactly did this come from? I'd love a VA service in to HKG, but I've not read this anywhere .. is this a wishlist item or do you have a link?

Sort of eluded to here ...... bit ' iffy ' hence the questions if anyone had any thoughts .....or intel etc. Hong Kong or any other new Asian spot for VA ?

Virgin Australia begins retirement of oldest Airbus A330s - Flights | hotels | frequent flyer | business class - Australian Business Traveller

Other than speculation in the comments section, this unfortunately doesn't give any pointer to it being Hong Kong. I would have thought more likely that they might take over one of SQ's flights to SIN to connect with other Singapore and SilkAir flights. VA's partners don't offer any connectivity at HKG other than the VS flight to VA.

Shanghai would be a better option if only for selfish reasons, my son lives there. That way we would not have to fly Qantas every time we visit him.

Will listen out to see if anything is mentioned on the 29th but won't hold my breath ......... You really miss the VS status credit earn rate and the fairly low burn cost and the good ability you could get on that route ....... Another case of ' it was good while it lasted ' I guess.

A friend of mine who is VA Cabin crew has a strong hunch they will launch SYD or PER-SIN flights, although I'm not too sure or hopefully about this one.. Despite him thinking it is much more likely that HKG

For Jay Cee: some of nearly a lot of the EK planes have onboard cameras that you can see the action of take off, inflight, and landing while sitting in your seat.
XFA has/had it, XFB has/had it, but seeing 1 of these has gone, and the other one going soon, but I have had my kick with the EK flight from CHC to SYD recently, with on board camera on the 777.

Thank you. JohnPhalan: posted that XFA & XFB were/are A330 EK/VA aircraft, about to be retired or have already gone. As I told JohnP I have seen these regos mentioned before but never knew what they were.

regards

I doubt this when one of your major shareholders operates numerous services daily with a lower cost base.

I said the exact same thing... He said that Singapore and VA are in talks so that VA can take the route... But Singapore will not allow them to do so until the VA J product is up to their standard.

I know this is all he said/she said, but really thats all we can refer to in this discussion haha

Ah GalleyFM - take that with a pinch of salt. Whilst there were rumours of VA taking over the EY BNE-SIN at one stage (as in before EY announced they were dropping the route), given the lack of 332s at their disposal, this looks unlikely. As does HKG. 29/8 may see an announcement of a fleet rejig which would be interesting and allow for these routes to be considered. Time will tell.

Yes, JB mentioned the option was still on the table, I suspect it will be revealed as part of the new J cabin reveal and personally I think it will be taking over a EY service thats stopping, and it could affect the pairing cities SQ schedule as well.

Would that Etihad service you are referring to coming to an end being the Airbus A330-200 service on the Brisbane -Singapore- Abu Dhabi route ? That ends rom June 1, 2015 when it becomes a non stop BNE / AUH service on an Etihad 787-9.

So ........ from that does VA maybe end up doing a Brisbane - Singapore service with their updated J product on board with some rigging of some of their Aust. coast to coast services? ...or am I barking up the wrong tree?

I also heard from a friend at VA it will be PER-SIN, will also kind of make QF look bad if VA take up the route.

On the same topic of making QF look bad:

If VA are desperate to make QF look bad, they should take over the 2nd daily ADL - SIN flight from SQ alongside launching PER - SIN. Surely that will throng an instant few towards VA?

Overheard some galley gossip through the curtain over the weekend. Seems later in the week , VA are due to announce DRW-SIN on 737's from January 2015 , to coincide with DRW lounge opening. Had a look at the Silk Air schedules and it would probably be the days that Silk Air don't do the run. Could just be rumours but who knows

The Tiger PER-SIN flights cease in Feb, so it's conceivable they might look at SIN-DRW.

I don't understand why, if it does go ahead, they wouldn't use the refitted A330's rather than 737's.

DRW-SIN? 737 is cheaper and smaller... and a wild uneducated guess would be that there may not be the tech facilities at DRW for an A332.
