So planning a leisure trip to Asia, noting VA/SQ's codesharing, I thought I would check the prices between each carrier's website. Slight shock...

BNE - SIN, 30/01/15, departs 9:10am:
- VA's website $807
- SQ's website $579.50

That makes VA 40% more expensive for the same flight, same metal, same seat, than SQ's website!!

Any reasonable explanations?

Noticed the same when booking our flights to Russia a few months ago. Va were quite a bit more expensive than SQ or EY on the same flights. We booked through EY instead.

Reasonable explanations? Perhaps VA have limited access to the cheaper fares, which in turn exhaust quicker resulting in the difference of price. Just because the operating airline has seats available at price X, the other airlines selling seats on that flight may not have the same access to the fares that airline a has.

I found the opposite when I booked HKG flights recently. SQ were $170-$200 dearer than VA. Also the flexi was only $30-$50 more than the cheapo fare. Also check what class the SQ will book into as some do not earn SC

In OP's case both options would earn 30 SC ......the Singapore $579.50 is an (N) fare class so all good and equal in that regard.

INTERESTING though ......this morning the 31 - 1 - 2015 VA5668 09:10 depart Brisbane - Singapore is down to , -
Saver $542 (4) left
Flexi $692 ( 60 SC earner )

Go figure.........
