Hi guys,

Quick question - I have a VA domestic ticket booked later in the year NTL-BNE-MEL, then onto a SIA international service (MEL-SIN-HND). Both are booked separately with respective airlines.

Is there a baggage interline agreement in place between VA/SIA, where my bags can be checked all the way through, even though they are separate tickets.

Cheers

I would suspect that as you are VA domestic and SQ international, you'll have to collect the bags in MEL and check them in with SQ. They do have an interline agreement, but in this particular instance, I don't think you can check them all the way through. I could be wrong and happy to stand corrected.

I've asked VA to check bags through to an international destination on a flight operated (and ticketed) by SQ and have met with 'we are unable to do that'. However, if you're travelling back the same way, then SQ should be able to tag your bags all the way through. We flew BKK-SIN-DPS (with SQ) and then transferred to a VA flight (on a separate VA ticket) and SQ tagged the bag all the way back to MEL/ADL. Didn't have to collect the bag in DPS so didn't have to clear immigration. They were even able to issue the boarding passes for the VA legs (not sure if that was just because we were flying J though).

SQ are fantastic and more than accommodating. VA have a little catching up to do.

Thanks heaps for all that info. Really helpful. I suspected we wound Not be able too as well, but intriguing re the Singapore efforts on return. We are in J as well so fingers cross we have the same luck.

We have a semi-tight connection outbound so would be handy to have our bags checked all the way through from domestic va onto international sq

You can think that, but the industry seems to be heading more and more toward the VA way of thinking.

I appreciate that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I'm only speaking from my own experiences with SQ - and I've had quite a few of them. I'm sure others have had different experiences and they may disagree with me. I can only go on my travels with SQ.

I've never had luck getting VA to interline anything on separate tickets (nor other "partners" to interline onto VA, or issue boarding passes either).
I haven't tried SQ->VA but have tried VA->DL, VA->VX, and the reverse a couple of times.

Will try again for VA->DL for an upcoming trip but I'm not holding my breath...

pythonisman, you might find you have more luck with VA-DL interlining nowadays – I had success doing that with separate PNRs recently!

VA-SQ seems a totally different story though, even on the same booking, ticketed on VA. VA claim to not be able to see anything or do anything about the SQ side of the booking!

In 2014 flying back from US I had award flight with VA LAX-SYD and paid flight on UA PNS-IAD-LAX. Had no issue at checkin getting UA to check bags all the way through to SYD. From memory when I got to LA I just had to go to transfer desk to get the VA Boarding pass issued.
