Do you have any status with VA?

If not, then you will only have access at AKL on your way out, and at BNE on the way back for the Trans Tasman sector.

Correct . Lounge access is not valid in Premium econ fares between Aust and USA. Only for the trans TAS segments ( unless you are Gold or above)

Anyway I can pay for access in LAX? Do they have a lounge that anyone can use/pay?

In addition to the Virgin America lounge in T3, you can pay for access to the Delta lounge in T5 at LAX before taking the bus over to T3. Bus leaves every half hour on the half hour; I would take a bus that leaves 60-90 minutes before VA8 assuming Delta issues you a VA boarding pass. The Delta lounge has a shower; the Virgin America lounge doesn't. However, the Delta lounge is nothing special; I wouldn't pay $50 for one time access. Note that you can pay US$90 for a 30 day pass to the Delta lounges, which would get you and a companion access in LAX (both directions) and MCO, as well as access to VA domestic lounges in Australia (though not any VA partner lounges in international terminals) after your US visit. That I might consider worth it, particularly if there are two of you.

Just to clarify, the 30 Day DL Lounge Pass no longer includes entry to VA Dom lounges. I saw it on their site that it was changing, but can't see it mentioned now.

Edit: Found it!

Delta SC Access Rules said:
30-Day members and members holding a temporary membership card will no longer have access to the Virgin Australia Lounge.

That's why I specified after your visit to the US. US Sky Clubs can issue a non-temporary card. The "temporary card" refered to a printout from a web site (which I used successfully to access VA/then DJ lounges before this rule change). Delta (as is typical for them) provides conflicting information, with the Sky Club page not mentioning VA for 30 day memberships, but the locations list does include VA domestic lounges for 30 day memberships.

I wouldn't count on VA access, but I'd certainly give it a try if you have the physical card issued by a Sky Club.

(Note: I apparently can't post links because I'm too much of a newbie, so you'll have to find them yourself.)
