Hi All,

Just took a flight from SIN-SYD and the check-in agent told me that the additional baggage allowance for VA Platinum is 15Kg and not 20Kg. She was able to let it go for this time but showed me an internal memo which mentioned that VA Gold & Platinum would only get 15Kg as additional baggage allowance.

Upon contacting the VA's Social Media team they said that the allowance is 20Kg but later retracted stating that they are in the progress of updating their website and the baggage allowance is 15Kg only.

Seems like yet another enhancement to their program.

Cheers

i think SQ anyway does not recognise VA Plat for any benefits so this reduction does not surprise. Could it be because they have increased general allowance for all pax ?

They'll be quick to revise the baggage on the website but not so quick to fix the rest of the issues on the website!

Well they haven't updated the website yet so realistically they cannot yet enforce the new limit. I would also argue that they cannot enforce it on ticket already purchased.

Probably the most half-assed partnership out there, so no big deal, for me anyway.

VA needs to be really careful messing around with the already wafer thin WP benefits on SQ.

I've found the SQ pricing rather uncompetitive of late, and this will only encourage their most loyal customers to look at MAS, TG or CX.

I guess we can forget any more SQ benefits if this is the way the alliance is going.

It is quite sad how poor SQ is for VA FFs. This is even more so considering how much of VA they own. It is a massive disincentive to book with SQ when traveling to Asia. This is one reason I keep thinking I should switch my domestic travel back to QF.

What are the other best options for a VA Plat traveling to Asia? Are there any?

They way I would spin it, if I was doing the "sell" of the new policy, would have been to do it at the same time SQ increased their luggage limits, and note that VA elites have had their overall allowance on SQ increased by 5kg (and omit that everyone else has had their's increased by 10kg  ). So overall limits are now 45, 55 & 65kg ... before it was 40, 50 & 60 kg (and a brief period where they were 50, 60 & 70kg).
