VA Metal, but DL ticket. Counts as eligible sector?

I'm trying to book a flight that goes SYD -> LAX -> MEX -> SFO -> SYD.

the SYD -> LAX and SFO -> SYD flights are VA operated, but the entire round trip would be ticketed by Delta.

Would these flights still count as eligible flights for Velocity? The T&C's say "An Eligible Sector is any flight that begins with a VA flight number", and these flights do have a VA number, but my ticket would have a DL flight number.

I'm guessing the answer is no, but thought I'd check.

I've done similar before and if your booking flight is DL### then no sector recognition.

You will get points and SCs if you nominate your velocity info.

When flights are operated as a codeshare there are two flight numbers - the flight on the ticket , which is the "marketing" carrier - the one the sales process goes through - and the flight number on the boarding pass which is the "operating carrier" or colloquially, whose "metal" it is. Just to add some terminology to help you distinguish in the future. As others have said, the marketing carrier must be Virgin Australia for it to count as an eligible sector, regardless of who operates the flights.
