Hmmmm - Virgin goes full service, and brings TT onboard as its very own "yellow cancer"?

re: VA invests in Tiger, buys Skywest, SQ investment & ACCC Concerns

I hope they don't use this to go all Jetstar on us and shunt everyone off VA

Smart move. So now it becomes two horse race again.

Does it mean VA Elites can get access to lounges flying Tiger?!

re: VA invests in Tiger, buys Skywest, SQ investment & ACCC Concerns

Ugh. Dont like the sound of this at all. These 2 companies are like chalk and cheese. Can't see how this will benefit VAFF's at all.

I guess there is now no question VA will go full service next year but I wonder if VA will say goodbye to CNS, MCY, HTI, DPS, NAN etc......

I wouldn't be too hopeful of J on leisure or TT routes in 12-18 months time!

re: VA invests in Tiger, buys Skywest, SQ investment & ACCC Concerns

I see on the Reuters wires that Virgin have also signed an agreement to buy Skywest and integrate into the Virgin Australia brand.

re: VA invests in Tiger, buys Skywest, SQ investment & ACCC Concerns

Game ON it seems

re: VA invests in Tiger, buys Skywest, SQ investment & ACCC Concerns

These 3 announcements are big news - but having SQ on the share registry is massive. Certainly is "game on"!

$35 Million for 60% - Must of seen an ad on ozbargain in Travel Deals.....

re: VA invests in Tiger, buys Skywest, SQ investment & ACCC Concerns

Predicted this 12 months ago as you will now see VA become a more direct competitor to QFd and Tiger direct competitor to JQ. This is going to get very interesting in terms of pricing etc.

I iunderstood that SQ owned part of Tiger is that corect?

The tie in betwwen Tiger and VA will aslo give Scoot a low cost option for budget travellers to and around Australia rather than just the JQ option as per before surely this will translate into good traffic increases on both Tiger and Scoot and leave VA for the premium flyers.

Is this also an indication of perhaps a move to Star Allinace in the near future getting away from VA image of LCC?

Although I pray daily this will happen (the problem of USDM across the Pacific would be solved!) JB has specifically said they will join Sky before joining *.

I am guessing that when Virgin Atlantic joins an alliance then VA will join the same alliance and given the interest that SQ now have in both entitities then Star is a better option INMHO. Also consider the partners that VA utilise are predominately Star too.

I think if EY join an alliance VA will follow them. I hope that is *.

VA would probably be the most premium airline in Sky if they joined them.

Rather than VA move away from a LCC image, it might be a better idea for people to realise there are more than two business models in air transport - full service legacy carriers (ie no ancillary fees) don't exist any more and "LCC" can mean pretty much anything from NZ/VX to FR/NK.

It is certainly the closest that we have to an admission from VA that they have abandoned the budget traveller.
