I received my card yesterday and just spent about 45 minutes trying to validate it. They want Drivers licence details, but won't accept NSW!! Passport, copies of documents, medicare details and each step along the way they rejected something because it might have been shown slightly different. Finally they said they couldn't find me on the electoral roll!! Really!

That's epic fail right there - forgetting the largest state by population in Australia! Or maybe the RTA would not allow this company to get online access to your details. Ironically though if you scan or photograph your licence, they will accept that as ID.

I submitted my Medicare number & verified my ID (NSW & Australian electoral roll).

Do other pre-paid Visa cards make you jump through these ID hoops?

EDIT: My photo ID (driver's licence) was verified by a human in about 30 minutes - and on a Sunday! Much better than the 3 business days quoted!

I didn't have to go through any of those hoops to validate mine. Was a really quick process.

Good thing electoral roll did not come into it given I am not on it (as I'm not a citizen).

My current balance is -$1. They've charged me the card loading fee but the money I loaded is still showing as pending.

If the RTA doesn't have an online way to access your licence info... Then it can't be used for online identification. Simple. I doubt that they really want to have to have your licence manually verified.

Well.. I was part way there back in post #136. My gold global wallet has turned up. I received a welcome email over a week ago when my account was reviewed over a week ago. Better go opt-out lest they send me another of these butt-ugly turbine cards.

Ummm don't think they did from memory. But I accessed the link through my FF account using my secure log in etc

i have no issues with the 4th point - it is to make a distinction between the card and the usual banking process.

It took the best part of 2 business days for my first amount to be loaded via bPay. Let's see how we go!

Received and activated mine yesterday, licence verification failed as did passport, electoral roll worked though. Loaded cash straight away and it is there this morning. compared the fee's to my bank credit card which I just used overseas in UK. Global wallet will be my future card for travel, would have saved over $33 in fee's if I'd had it early enough.
Will do several smaller transfers over coming weeks before next trip to make sure the transfers really do go through in 24hrs.

Received mine and have filed it. Looking at the fine print I can find no reason to actually activate it at the moment. Perhaps I may have a need for Velocity points overseas and AMEX is not taken.

I received my pretty card a few weeks back. Yesterday I received another one - I presume I can only have only one active card? I might turn it into a bag tag. Anyway, with a load fee and ATM fee and the exchange rates I can see no valid reason to use it. Citibank tell me I can use my ATM card for my upcoming NZ trip with no ATM fee and receiving Visa cards current exchange rate. Sounds like a better deal to me.

I got my red Velocity Global Wallet a few weeks ago and proceede to activate it. I put in my medicare # and it was all done pretty quickly. It's a shame it takes so long for a BPay deposit to go through, but that means one has to plan ahead.

I don't like however that the only 2 options of topping up this card are BPay or POLi. I don't trust POLi at all, yet all the airlines use it as a form of payment. Why isn't there an option to pay with paypal, or Aus Post's PostBillPay, or some affiliation with a particular bank, so you can go into a branch and make a cash deposit. I can live with the $1 load fee. But the POLi thing really bugs me when I've read the New Zealand Government didn't trust it, the Australian Government didn't recommend it either, and the Commonwealth Bank said they had no affiliation with POLi. Yet when you visit the POLi website (which looks like it was created in 1999, and by a 10 year old), they list the Commonwealth Bank as a partner.

Just google "Banks concerned over POLi security" to see the iTnews article on POLi. Sorry I can't post links just yet as I'm a new member.

If you don't know what POli is, it's best described as spoof system. You log into your bank account, sharing your account number, password along the way, via POLi's website! That's no different than those fake emails you get saying your Paypal account has been suspected of being breached, and they want you to login to it to change the password. Accept you're not logging into Paypal at all, just a website that looks like Paypal, and thus all your info has been skimmed.

Am I being overly cautious with POLi, or are these concerns warranted?

Agree, there should be an option for a fast load such as you mentioned Aust Post or Paypal... Will be interested to see if the Qantas cash has additional loading options in a few months time...

i agree, there's no such thing as being 'overly concerned' when you are using your personal banking password on another site...that's the No 1 internet security breach

I emailed REV to ask if those recharge packs you can buy from the post office will work with the VGW. They said no. Still it would be tempting to actually try it out. If I had a canvas card or the only1 version, I'd get a recharge and see for myself.

n7of9, that was my thoughts as well. You can't be too careful. It's weird how it's mostly the airlines who are the big POLi users. And what's even more dodgy, if is you pay by POLi for a flight, you can waive their criminal processing fee.

I suppose I can live with BPay only with the VGW. But still think it's silly there are no options for a cash deposit at any particular bank, or being able to use Paypal. Being able to use Paypal if you were overseas and then needed to top up funds would be so ideal. Since it could get funds from your bank account, or your credit card. Where as BPay only gets funds from your bank account.

Anyway, I've also emailed Velocity to ask them the question to, of where can I go to make a cash deposit into this card, and using Paypal. I imagine their response will be, nope it's BPay and dodgy POLi only.

I loaded mine yesterday with the POLI option. It showed the amount, less the load fee available straight away. Will try the card out today with a couple of transactions to see if it works...

I've been using mine for a few days. I did a couple of transactions last night which were shown as pending on the app. As of this morning (0700), they are still showing as pending. I can see, though, the time of the transaction down to the second.

An annoying feature though is that on the app, I can't see a running balance on the history.

LOL, most of that was a QF airfare ex SIN.

On average, it has been about been about 2 days where transactions have been showing as pending.
