I loved the Channel nine news coverage.Above caption of virgin plane in Bali they a VA plane on the far side of the airport. As they panned back a Rex plane went past.Should try their Bali service!:p:confused::D:D

And because he was going to Bali he is excused for his behaviour?
No. But a lot go there for that reason
On one of my projects the contractor had a labourer who preferred to go to Bali on DJ(VA) as he could drink more. OK this only a sample of 1. If you ever wanted a definition of drunken Ozzie Bogan he was the one. (We did alcohol testing on this construction site at 07:00- he passed. Some others did not)

From BNE + to Bali + Virgin + 6 hour flight............sums it up.

Really, idiots like this one is why alcohol won't be served on board flights someday. There seem to be more of these idiots and the problems they caused can't be ignored.
Let's hope the irresponsibility of a small sample don't spoil it for all the rest of us.

It is possible to holiday overseas, get drunk, enjoy yourself and not behave like a moron.

Just a thought....

Agreed.. Completely!
I have taken a few flights on VA recently BNE/DPS. Never have I witnessed any bogan type behaviour on board.
Certainly this type of idiots behaviour is well out of order & should be harshly punished.

He flew from BNE, not PER, so probably was wearing a singlet :D

I'm totally offended by the southern folk describing BNEites as bogan and wearing singlets. Everyone knows a real bogan wears singlets AND thongs if from BNE, and if from MEL, they wear singlets and fluffy moccasins......please get it right next time.

Maybe he just wanted an extended free holiday in Bali. I guess he get that now..

I wonder also once they kick him out, how will he get back. Wont most airline not want him on a flight ? Hope he can swim, or maybe he
can get a boat to Christmas island.

Some interesting things here.

The article from The Age has a picture of an official holding up a copy of what appears to be the perpetrator's IDs. Sure you can't make any detail of them, and the idiot's name has already been released, but an unusual thing to happen anyway.

I guess there's not really a big deal in the pilot calling a hijack when it was later said that it was not a hijack. Even if later it was - from what I can get from the article - reflected that it was near unnecessary to call for a hijack. I suppose much better safe than sorry, irrespective of the consequences (for the airline and the airport).

Of course, it must be said, what an idiot. I would like to think he should spend some quality time (i.e. a lot) in prison, but I'm guessing he will be organised to leave the country within a short period of time. Especially if it wasn't a "true" hijack, they probably don't have too much to pin on him more than the next drunken idiot on any given flight (who also slips by with a slap on the wrist).

the fact is he was responsible for the 'hijack procedure' being 'actioned'...once that occurs, there's NO going back (you cant just 'cancel' this procedure inflight..yes it's THAT serious)

a stay in the Bali 'hilton'.. an 'escorted' flight back home (i'm being lenient on this aspect).. cancel his passport/put on EVERY airlines' 'no fly' list (take your pick).. throw in a stay in an Oz prison (after the legal procedure of course).. and finally...'the bill's in the mail' ....I have ZERO tolerance for this type of 'behaviour'

(I wonder if he was travelling with a 'boogie board'???)

It's not a bad idea to send him back the long way... Will give him a taste of what people are willing to do to come to this country. Maybe he will learn to appreciate how lucky he is to be able to fly freely anywhere anytime and won't act like a total moron next time he is on a plane.
Unfortunately, this type of 'constructive' punishment is not allowed in democratic regimes, so he will probably just get a slap on the wrist from our incompetent legal system.

Seriously, I wonder why the flight crew considered it necessary to Squawk 7500, the international hijack code. The media reports that he "attempted" to enter the coughpit. That's not a hijacking. The result was that the airport was closed and a dozen flights were diverted from Denpasar airport. Cost and inconvenience were at serious levels.

I hope, if this was just an "innocent" drunken lout unable to control himself, that many others will take a lesson from it. With all the loss of life due to terrorism over the years, I really thought everyone knew that when you fly, you do so on your best behaviour or risk losing a lot of freedoms. I'm amazed that clowns like this one, think that they can behave on a plane like they're at a B&S ball in Upper No-mans Creek.

I've got a feeling the public shaming of this jackass will be more punishment than anything, but I also wouldn't be surprised if the authorities in Bali take a very dim view. Time will tell of course.
