VA economy food & drinks

Had the $10 cheese toastie on BNE-PER last month. Honestly pretty good really, considering the rest of the options. Though weird to have melted cheese on top of the bread, as half of it stuck to the plastic when peeling off.

The hot/fresh food options will be welcome.

I'm still unsure though why anyone would pay $5 for a bar of chocolate or a packet of Cheezels.

Cheaper than buying KFC at the gate and carrying on?

(I’m still recovering from that incident where a family in front of me did that 🤮)

I wonder for how long they will keep announcing the entire onboard snack options and pricing over the PA system.

Surely everyone in economy should have a menu with all that information available to them.

The printed menu lists all the "ambient snack" options, but not the "secret menu" items - which is basically all the fresh food. These items seem to rotate and are different from flight to flight, so it would make sense to announce these - but not everything else.

Tried the pies snack from economy, in J today. I had already had the chicken on the last flight so the attendant made up 2 snack packs of the pies for me instead. They weren't too bad.

Out of interest, did they charge you for the snack off the economy menu?

I have noticed that there are menus with prices listed in the J seat pockets - I assumed that if you wanted something from this, you would have to pay for it but I could be wrong.

No they didn't charge me anything. He said he was able to nab 2 packs from the back which is pretty cool.

I'm not sure if they can do that regularly, I think he felt bad that they had run out of my first choice which was the pasta.

New revised menu for economy which adds the previous options like toasties. You'll also be able to get a few boost juices and snacks now.

Betty's burgers will also be in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane lounges on Thursday and Friday nights, which seems rather neat, though not my favourite burger.

though not my favourite burger.
Agree on this. My experience with their mushroom burger has been less than pleasantry. I'm a vego, so I only had one option on their menu and it was the mushroom burger. Won't be buying it again ... My friends who eat meat, seemed to like their other offerings.

Will be in MEL VA lounge in May - will give the veg/mushroom burger another shot and see if there is any improvement

We have an evening flight tomorrow from Melbourne , hoping to try out the new menu offerings and shed more light on the burgers.

If only we were getting Shake Shack, their shroom burgers were brilliant. Always a treat when passing through LAX, hopefully with the switch to United we won't lose out on the good shroom!

Any indication on what time is considered "dinner" in the lounge for this offering?

Looks like it's after 5 pm
Ah ok thanks. Will miss out on a couple weeks with a 17:10 departure. But have a 17:45 in June so hopefully still around then.

Or I could just go for a walk to Betty's and pay for one...🤪
