I have a booking made with VA for a SYD-JFK flight in August that includes flights operated by DL but having VA codeshare flight numbers. One of the sectors, JFK-LAX was booked as VA6550 operated by Delta flight DL420 departing JFK @ 3.31pm.

I recently received an email from VA saying that the departure time for VA6550 had moved to 5.05pm which coincided with Delta flight DL447. I called up and because it was an involuntary schedule change I was able to change to VA flight VA6572 that was going to leave at the original time I had intended to depart, 3.31pm. This flight coincides with Delta flight DL420, the orginal DL flight I was booked to fly on.

It would seem that VA has decided to renumber its codeshare flights operated by Delta.

But here's the confusion. If I use the DL booking reference number and look up my itinerary on the DL website, it's showing I'm still booked on the original VA flight number VA6550 operated by DL420 departing @ 3.31pm, no mention of the new flight number VA6572. I rang Delta to confirm what flight I was really on and they confirmed their system is showing I'm booked on VA6550 (not VA 6572) operated by DL420.

As to the VA/DL codeshare flight number confusion, the very same thing happened to me on a recent SYD-LAS itinerary where VA changed their codeshare number for a DL flight I was flying on from LAS to LAX.

Has anyone else come across this experience and can advise what I ought to be doing?
