I have just made a reservation via Virgin Australia, for SYD-LHR return next year.
When completing the booking, I had no option to select seat preferences/selection for myself and partner.
However, it did automatically generate seat preferences which places myself and partner sitting separately (presume we may both have aisle pref in our velocity profile).

Is this possible change? I try manage booking from the virgin website, but I just get an error message when typing in my reservation number. Would the gold contact centre be able to change the seat preference even on EY metal?

Any help or experiences with EY appreciated

I just called up VA and they sorted my seats out. All in all an easy and very pleasant experience. (Lovely lady helped me out.)

I used the e-ticket number that was supplied with the booking to select seats and check in online on the Etihad website about 6 months ago.

If you are able to get a copy of the ticket number you can log into the EY website and check for your seats, but im not sure if you can change it online, however you can call up Etihad's reservations desk and request for seat changes and they do it immediately.

Did Virgin give you an Etihad reservation number? because you can go to Checkmytrip and type in your reservation number and last name, and check where you are sitting and which seats are available, then you will be able to call etihad and request for the seats which are available.

So far as I remember - EY do not allow seat selection online until check in, but you can call them to select seats beforehand.

One of the things that irritates me a little is that EY do not offer preferred seating to VA elites. :-/

I agree...I thought I would give the VA/EY a go, I'm usually a Qantas faithful on this route - if only VA flew all the way to LHR

Yeah we all wish VA flew all the way to EU/UK.

But I don't think VA can do it right now, because they would need to hire ground crews for the LHR-AUH sector, plus put on an extra service and they only have five 777.

But it would be nice to fly VA all the way to LHR. Better FF points earn rate :) Gold 75% platinum 100%, whereas if you flew etihad the max bonus is 50% for gold and platinum.

Unless VS are planning on pulling out of LHR-HKG-SYD (which I SEROIUSLY doubt) then you will not see VA heading to the UK full stop.

Plus there is no benefit for them to add what is already a saturated route LHR-ANYWHERE-SYD.

I actually don't really see the advantage to having VA fly in to LHR -- the only real issue is not being able to fly whY+ all the way, but the flipside of that is being able to get really keenly priced mixed-class fares. To my mind it would make more sense to beef up the presence at AUH so I have more options flying there on VA metal, then transfer to an EY flight from there. Oh, and fix the integration issues so EY can "see" my status (it doesn't print on the boarding cards for the EY sectors, nor do I get priority baggage, boarding or seating .. all of which are annoying).

Just book the VA codeshare -- you'll earn 75%/100% bonus as per flying on VA metal.

There wouldn't be any complaints or wishes about VA flying all the way to LHR, if Etihad just integrated or recognised VA's FF status.
