Redeemed on VA 7 for mid October and the seat map offered the new configuration - J - 1,2,1

VH-VPD disappeared from the VA Source flight tracker on Feb 24 after flying the VA7 to LA. So it would appear to be the first 777 to get the new layout! Anyone clever enough or with inside info about when it will reappear? Been 2 weeks now.

OK, where is the first refit 777 VPD?? 40 days are well and truly passed (52 days so far since it went into refit) and it is missing from the VA Source. John Borghetti was to have accompanied press to LA this past week for the reveal but is said to have cancelled after the Air New Zealand bombshell. So what is going on??

VA2 seat map still showing new config for this Wed 13/4 , so it will be interesting to see what unfolds.

I'm hoping that with the new seating fit-out there will no longer be the need for the mattresses that are currently being used which will then result in increased overhead locker space.

This seems a strange request? I reckon mattresses are 100% still required (how else do you smooth out the joins in the seat?). It is the one thing missing from CX using the same seats. I had to used my main blanket to create a mattress to cover up the joins in the seat.

QUOTE For overnight flights such as the red-eye services from Perth to Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, the seat converts into a flat two-metre bed that's topped with a memory foam mattress, high-grade cotton pillows and doona. UNQUOTE

Found this on the 330's review on Ausbt's review. I would imagine the same for the 777 fitout.

PS - If I ever get a chance to fly Business Class - I don't care how much locker space I have, I'm going to be too busy sinking into that memmmmory foammmmmmm............

On my last flight, they were stashing the mattresses in the space behind some of the seats (from memory it was behind Row 4, between the seat and the bulkhead, and possibly also behind Row 5, if there's a space there?), so no locker space required.....

Plus it's more hygienic than everyone in their PJ's sleeping directly on the seat itself.......!

That launch trip was indeed in my diary for the week just gone, but there were last-minute delays in the seat's readiness which of course iced the planned SYD-LAX-SYD media jaunt. But won't be long now until the refurb'd bird is winging its way back from LAX.

just did a dummy booking for this wends from LA to Syd in j and its showing the old layout

Correct, mattress behind row 4. I've never seen an issue with overhead locker space even with J at full capacity. In my view they should retain the mattress. Flying SQ's new J over Christmas, I really found that seat quite firm. Needs a mattress (not that VA are using same seat, I'm just pointing out softer-the-better).
