V Australia may be forced to change 777 seats after FAA AD

V Australia this morning joins 42 airlines around the world considering its next step after the Federal Aviation Administration issued an airworthiness directive overnight for airlines to determine if their passenger seats meet safety specifications and, if not, to bring them up to standard or replace them within 2-6 years.

2-6 years is a decent lead time. I'm sure things will be sorted.

But - OUCH at the cost (from the article)

V Australia is potentially looking at a bill of $2.6m to replace the 288 Koito economy seats on its four 777-300ER if it is not able to, or elects not to, replace affected parts. The actual cost could be higher once installation time, aircraft lost revenue time, and IFE changes are considered.

I'm surprised about the lead time actually,I thought if an issue was considered so serious that it required an AD that it would be something that required fixing in a much shorter time frame,obviously my knowledge about airworthiness directives is somewhat lacking.
