Well after travelling QF Y+ in 2009 & experiencing the extra comfort we again went to Y+ for our Syd-LAX flight last week this time with VAust
Apparently extra 120 odd United passengers dropped onto this flight when United experienced a breakdown in Sydney.This meant slower than normal check-in (received apology, "good for revenue but poor for customer service") & no spare seats in Y+. Fast pass through departures in Sydney worked great & refund of GST for notebook also done in a couple of minutes
Being 6'3" & broad I cannot say I enjoyed the experience compared to QF. The base of the seat seems very short & provides minimal comfort (read hard on the bum) & leg support is not there & unable to find comfortable spot for feet. Recline seems to be greater on VAust & that leads to reclining yourself when person in front plops back on you & creates strange angle. Entertainment system worked fine & touch screen was easy to navigate. Sat in row 12C & loos just in front & kept clean & never long lines. Food Ok without being outstanding-looks like same menu from old trip reports. Walk up self serve bar a a bit of non-event, area used by staff for food distribution-no real trolley use down the Y+ cabin.
Arrived early at LAX but then 1hr 20min from plane door until out of airport door-slow through immigration with long lines, then bags were on dead carousel by the time we got there & then waved straight through customs check.
