My partner and I are looking to fly to Johannesburg from Brisbane in March 2020 for our honeymoon.

I called up the velocity redemption centre, and was quoted 75k per passenger each way for economy.

I then went all searched on the Virgin website for flights and found them to be 65k per passenger each way.

I have around 400k points, and ideally at least one leg will be business class. I should have another 50k points in the next few months.

It looks like Singapore Airlines will be the carrier. Am I better off transferring points over to KF miles or continue with Velocity booking?

Cheers

I thought VA rewards was via Perth and then SA airlines?

And Im currently looking at transferring to KF and going via SQ so interested in what you end up doing.

Good luck!

I also thought this was the case. When I called the virgin call centre, I was told no Perth flights with SA airlines were available. I was told I would need to go with Etihad via Qatar. When I searched on Virgins website, it only came up with reward seats on Singapore Airlines....

I did this last year by transferring points to Krisflyer, did BNE-SIN(stopover)-JNB as SQ include a free stopover.

Highly recommend both hard and soft product on SQ.

Am doing the same thing for flights to London in December.

When I looked into transferring the points over, it looks like it is cheaper to stay with Velocity points and book direct through Virgin.

When I did it there was far more availability on SQ business class and also this was pre-devaluation.

I fly to ZA about twice a year and just book with SQ directly. VA won't throw in the east coast connection with SAA, so you'd need to make your own way to Perth (where SAA has heaps of availability). You do need to book the SIN-JNB flight pretty early as awards dry up quickly
