Using QFF on a CX booking ?

Excuse my ignorance here, I am booking a trip on Cathay via their website and if I enter my QFF number will I earn status credits and points (assuming I have eligible flights).

I am trying to avoid joining another FF program.

Correct. As long as you book an eligible fare class as listed on the QF website.
