Is there any other way to book a redemption ticket using QF FF points on Cathay being a OneWorld member as opposed to ringing QFF directly? I tried on the QFF website but without success for Syd - HKG- FRA then return from Rome via HKG then Syd?

Welcome to AFF!

Occasionally the redemptions appear online, but most of the time you’ll have to phone them. Sorry.

Thank you for my first post and I fear you are correct and the extra points will be needed to book it via QFF telephone so be it.

Sometimes they'll offer to waive the fee when you explain that the only reason you are calling is because the Qantas website refuses to show CX flights, and that you know that it is a recognised known issue within Qantas.

Worth a try.

CX options often appear on sectors where QF also operates. For example, I booked a redemption seat on CX SYD-HKG via the QF website last week (just two days before travel).

As QF doesn't fly via HKG to FRA, I'm assuming that is why it doesn't appear.

You could use one of the external applications (KVS, EF), to view the award availability on CX. This way you know the award seat is available before phoning qantas.

I normally search using British Airways as i have an account there. This option is not normally available to Australians unless you have a UK address, although I'm sure a dummy address would work to create an account.

The other option is to create an Asia Miles account and search, but I'm reluctant to use this as proof, as they may release seats to their members that aren't available to QF etc.

Not sure if other OW airlines have an online search tool that will find CX sectors.

Note to self: set this up once my address is confirmed:!:

EF does not show CX award availability. I do not use KVS so am not sure if they show CX awards or not.

Personally, I use a free CX Asia Miles account to search for CX award availability before calling redeeming carrier (usually AA in my case, by QF will work the same) to redeem.

Yes, QF will want to charge the telephone booking fee. Consider this QF's way of funding the software development costs to properly develop their IT systems. I will suggest your chances of having this points fine waived are slight.

Earlier this year, I booked QFF award SGN-HKG(transit)-SYD on CX, for my parents. Plenty of seats available online, more so than the QF HKG-SYD flights.

My friend recently booked, SYD-HKG (QF), return HKG-SYD return on CX J. But we also found ringing up QF, that not all CX flights will show up online.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Yeah, KVS does show CX Award Availability, but you need to have an Asia Miles account to run it. Same applies to when searching for *A availability you will need an ANA account.
