I'd like to fly from Washington DC (DCA or IAD if necessary) to Tampa (TPA or SRQ) in July, on AA, using my Qantas points. Is this even possible? I've done some research and and all I can see is that I am supposed to book on the Qantas website, but when I punch in DCA or IAD as the departure airport, TPA and SRQ won't come up.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

There don't seem to be any direct flights but the QF site is showing me routes via Chicago or Charlotte available on a random day in April for 12000 pts in economy or 24000 pts in business.

Go to www.qantas.com.au and log in, then make sure you select Use points - Classic Flight rewards only in order to get Tampa available as a destination.

I have used QF points for AA domestic flights in the past, have found it to be good value if the domestic fares are unusually expensive. But be sure to compare it to a cash price to ensure you're getting good value for your points.

looked at Monday July 1 & there are 3 nonstop flights DCA/TPA & they all have at least 7 frequent flyer seats (aircraft on all - new airbus A319)

Use Qantas points for USA domestic flights & USA to Canada flights, all the time.

We flew JFK(NYC) to Vail nonstop on a 757-200. Think it was 18,000 pts each. JFK is a zoo, but Vail is a fantastic airport & much more user friendly than giant Denver.

Paying for fares to Vail(EGE) though is very expensive, cf. flying to Denver, but as DEN & EGE are so close, same number of frequent flyer points required.

Eg. SFO/EGE 12,000 qantas pts(via LAX or PHX(phoenix), but if you fly SFO/DEN via LAX or PHX think it's over 12,000 qantas pts(18,000 I think) as must be just over the allowable distance for 12,000 pts.

The other thing is checking bags Vail to Australia when on ff ticket to LAX & then paid ticket back to Australia. SOmetimes they allow it, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they charge the $25/bag, sometimes they don't. Best ebt, be nice at check in & explain you are connecting to an international flight, same day or within 24 hours. The rules are very grey, wirtten by someone who failed english at school (must have been written by a very dodgy lawyer, who made them vague on purpose)

AA have moved most of their flights from IAD to DCA. The admirals club at IAD was also closed years ago.

There are no flights to JFK or LGA from IAD anymore.
