Using Qantas frequent flyer points on Jetstar

Does anyone have any advice on using points on Jetstar flight to Honolulu. How far in advance do I have to book?

Award seats are made available approximately 11.5 months ahead. If you want particular dates, best to start looking that far in advance. Remember too that in certain periods like school holidays, there might be no award seats made available at all.

Yes exactly! I looked at a random date ... Jetstar is 28,800 pts + $220. For same date fare was $379, including luggage.

The value is about the same as gift vouchers, which most would consider bad use of points. '

Depending on cost on the days you are looking at, probably better off to redeem 31,040 pts for a $200 voucher for use on Jetstar, and purchase a plus bundle fare, which gives meal, seat selection and 4,500 QF pts and luggage. On the day I randomly chose, using the vouchers, after deducting the 4,500 pts you get back, it comes to 26,540 pts + $238, and you get a meal and free seat selection, vs award ticket for 28,800 pts + $220 (no meal or seat selection).

Yes I and many others have been complaining about these exorbitant fees for ages still falls on deaf ears. Just be glad its not In J then the fees are off the richter scale.

If you do book a Y seat pay the extra get an exit seat for room, nothing worse than having a seat in your face long haul especially the overnighter to HNL.
