I read in the Fin Review an article saying that is was possible to use Qantas ffp to book AA flights. There were no details of the mechanics of this.Could someone explain how this is done?

Pretty easy really - you should beable to jump online and book some through the Qantas online booking tool. Failing that just call Qantas and book through them - though in that case you would have to pay the assisted booking fee of 2,500 points per person.

I assume you are talking about the article in December last year that quoted Dave Noble. In that article, Dave mentioned the benefits of use AA's GG program (called AAdvantage) to accumulate miles and redeem rewards, even when flying with Qantas.

If you already have points in QFF, then you can use them according to the terms and conditions of the QFF program to redeem flights on any of the Qantas FF partner airlines including AA.

Dave was suggesting that for some people it is better to earn the miles in the AAdvantage program rather than using Qantas FF program. So fly with Qantas but earn the FF miles in your AAdvantage account. In many cases an award redemption requires significantly less AAdvantage miles and the same redemption using Qantas FF points. And AAdvantage does not charge their members the fuel surcharges that Qantas insists its FF program members must pay for their award flights.
