Hi

Wondering what others think my best option is here!

I am Gold FF and am heading to the States later this year. I have enough points to either book a flexi fare and spend the 90,000 points to upgrade to business (fare is around $2,500) OR use points for a PE seat plus $130 payment for taxes.

Is the VA business product worth shelling out the cash? I have flown PE before and was happy enough with it.

What is the best value for use of points?

Is 90,000 points for the return flight or just one-way? I can't be bothering looking at the Velocity site...

The business product on VA 777s is very nice :)

Assuming it is, it's about a 3.5% return which is right in the sweet spot for me

Spending 90,000 points to save about $3300 is pretty good value, and of course business fares can be up around $8000 and not the $5800 I have quoted so the value could be much higher

I would go with the PE option. I went with points in business, and while it was very nice, if you were happy with PE then I'd go with that. Business is the best 'value' for points, but not worth the cash IMO (even the $2500 cash plus points). Do you have enough points for business one way and economy the other? That could give you a taste of business so you can work out how to spend points in the future.

Return. Upgrading a Flexi SYD-LAX costs 45,000 for the sector. I'm doing same in October, all I've got to decide now is which row of J to go for.

Many prefer row 5 - although I find it a little claustrophobic. Prefer row 1 A & C for two people. Remember if travelling singularly window seats require you to climb over the
adjoining passenger. Enjoy !

Well in that case 90,000 points to save about $3300-$5500 on the cash price of J is very much worth it!
