Using Platinum travel credit ($300) before paying annual fee

Hi all,

My annual travel credit is available at $300 for my Platinum Charge. My annual fee hasn't come in on my card statement yet.

Just wondering, can I use this travel credit and then cancel my card? Are there any terms and conditions that will stop me from cancelling my card if I had used my travel credit?

Depends if you think you'll ever want an Amex card in the future, I suspect.

Well, actually there are plenty of accounts of people who have done this and no, Amex did not ban them for life (but maybe this is why they now have am 18 month ban!)

Sure you'll be fine. I doubt they'll even notice, though I'd leave a little gap between cancelling if you can.
