Please let me preface this is NOT a Qantas bash. Just curiosity
Next year husband and I are unlikely to retain Platinium
So pondering the possibility of using other airlines (possibility came quicker than I thought)
I don't have LTG still a few thousand away, so I am considering that
However no Platinium means no 1st lounge which I do like
Our long distance travel is usually in Business or first
Has anyone cut the ties , not in anger, and gone to other lines for particular reasons?

No requirement to get the 4 x ~ for a soft landing. It happens even if you don't do a single flight, and continues through eash level on an annual basis (plat->gold->silver)
Ah interesting. As a few years ago I remember it was a bit hit or miss about your soft landings. I’ll soon be able to give my experience as I’m dropping from P1 to WP (hopefully) later in the year

No, there’s never been an issue with soft landings (every so often people come on here assuming you must have 4~ and i guess it’s that assumption that sticks in people’s minds rather than the actual way it operates).

Edited to add: perhaps the recollection from a few years ago is in relation to comped status? It used to be fairly frequent that QF would comp you another year at your current status even if you didn't quite make the required number of points. But then it seems to have tightened up a bit and they introduced the 'pay to remain' by spending points.

Some here appear to do LTG status runs...
And some are doing BA Lifetime Gold runs from scratch. Some think they need Lifetime status just in case they are flying as much in their 60's and 70's.

I rushed to get to Lifetime Gold but do only just enough to get Platinum each year as that is my sweet spot.

From what understand your fall to WP is as what @MEL_Traveller suggests it will just happen. The WP1 gift of WP is a hard landing and is one of reasons I am currently looking to book MrsM and MissM RTW in F next year as I may fall from P1 before we travel. MrsM will go from WP to NB overnight and no more OW F lounge access will be my fault .

What's this just in case I will be flying in my 70s.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D
That is 1 grin for every F award i have booked so far this year.

I'm LTG and P1 that also burns > 1M QFF points every year. I've started my turn away from QFF by accruing some serious AMEX miles (the one that can credit to 10 airlines). I'll maintain QFF status until I've exhausted my QFF points ..... this may take a few years.

Err.... you don't need Lifetime Platinum if you're flying First class.... if you're flying economy then different story....

Some of us have a more historical perspective about flying in their 60s.....:rolleyes:
Considering the possible issues of travel insurance in one's 80s seems to be an upcoming topic........

Just happily wandering
Fred

Rotten husband will maintain next year and the year after
However poor old wife aka me just can't justify a trip for the heck of it.
Back to the drawing board and working out what to do.
Even if just for the heck of flying first with someone else I think a BA first is in my future

You won't miss status if you travel Business or First.

Unless you're flying BA or Qantas... then status matters, even if in first or business.

With BA it's about seat selection (selecting seats in business class comes at a cost on BA unless you have status), with QF status matters so you don't get bumped with little or no compensation, or want the pick of the best seats, and with both of them... status matters if you actually want to speak to someone at the call centre :(
