Hello, I am trying to plan a holiday in March 2013. I would like to fly from Buenos Aires to NYC (1 week in NYC), then to PUJ (1 week in PUJ) and then back to Buenos Aires. I have ~130,000 Qantas points and want to try and use them somehow to either save money or fly in business. I will be flying with my partner, I had a look at the oneworld site and I can't find anywhere that I can see what flights are available for how many points/upgrades etc. Can someone please help me out and point me in the correct direction. Using expedia I managed to find fares for ~$1500-1700 USD per person all using AA flights. Thanks

I had a look on the Qantas website and searched using their multi city tool, however it didn't show an option to fly from Buenos Aires to NYC (NYC wasn't listed on the destinations).

IF not listed you need to call.
Not all oneworld airlines are shown online

You won't be able to use QF points to upgrade on AA or LA, only for outright redemptions. You can work out how many you need by looking at the relevant (partner airline?) table on Qantas website (I'm posting from my phone so cannot link to it the moment) and knowing the flight distance (use mileage monkey for this).

Thanks for the info. So my understanding is I quote the flights I wish to fly on with dates and check if there is availability for a classic award (that is the only option)? Do I only pay the 6000 points or $60 AUD per person after the booking is complete? Am I charged anything just for finding out what flight options are available to me? Appreciate the advice - does anyone know about the oneworld options that might suit my planned routes or be cheaper than using my points to book classic award tickets?

Mileage monkey shows it is ~12,000 miles including the routes which aren't direct. A total of 64,000 points per person on American Airlines based on the Qantas website. Is this a good use of my points or are there better options (I couldn't find anything on the AA website about the 'Atlantic circle' or something). I'm not against paying for the flights, just want to get the most out of it either financially or with comfort.
