Hi all,

I have recently upgraded to a Commbank Platinum, thinking it would entitle me to some amazing offers and services. I have read how to redeem points and where to use your card to get the most out of it. But it for every PRO there always seems to be CON. I am especially have some issues with linking my card to my QFF account, does it even matter if they are linked? or can i just transfer points when i want to redeem a flight or use the points and pay system?

Any advice or past experiences would be great. I have never been one to believe "something is for free", just want want to maximise my cards potential as i use it a fair bit and see it as a shame that i am not being rewarded.

Hi vadim minos,

Welcome to AFF. :D

You are right about the CBA Platinum card when you say 'for every PRO there always seems to be CON' The card is expensive and you can only transfer to Qantas by direct sweep. i.e. You need to link you card to your QF FF account ($10 pa) and the earn to QF is at 50% of your total points. (2 CBA points equal 1 QF FF point) Any points earn prior to establishing the link will also not count toward Qantas. The Amex associated with the CBA Platinum card gives a better ratio of points though I'm not sure of the exact ratio.

If you are after QF FF points the Woolworths Mastercard is at a 1:1 ratio.

Yes it does matter because if you want to earn QFF points based on your CBA plat card spend you need to specifically opt in to the CBA Qantas frequent flyer direct program (costs $10pa IIRC). Otherwise you will earn CBA points which you can spend on a variety of uninteresting awards but not get QFF points. Once you opt into the QF direct program you can only earn QFF points and your CBA points will be automatically converted to QFF points once a month.

The Amex card gives you a good conversion ratio ($1 spend = 1.5 QFF points) but the Mastercard card is hopeless ($1 spend = 0.5 QFF points). There are much better options for a Visa/MC if you want to earn QFF points.

I am in the same boat as the OP ... I have not linked my card to QFF or Velocity rewards as yet ... I was fence sitting waiting for the big Velocity announcement

I have only had it for a few months and have given the Amex a good work out so have a few points ... Straitman , are you able to confirm that if you sign up for the " direct credit" and existing points DO NOT come across? ie only points earned from the day you sign up to the auto transfer?

That is the way it was worded when the direct sweeps to QF started so I would assume that it is still the case.

You would need to contact CBA to confirm though.

Same here, at the time I also rang and was told that as well

Update

Just spoke to the CBA rewards team ..... some good and bad news ..... you can transfer all existing points to Velocity rewards ...... but cannot do this for Qantas ( only starts as of the day you sign up )..... Lucky I am a member of both !!
