Hi All, My wife and i both have 36000 Krisflyer miles and would like to use them on an air newzealand flight from Queenstown to Los Angeles on Jan 1st 2013, a couple of questions i would love answered if anyone could help. 1. How do i transfer my miles to Air Newzealand. 2. Even though i wont have enough miles for the entire trip is there something in place that allows me to use my points and get a discount on the flight? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Since you have Krisflyer miles, you will have to deal with Singapore Airlines/Krisflyer. You need to book through them, so you need to look at their website to see the mileage requirement is. It is possible to pay to buy some additional miles to top up (I am sure 36K is not enough), although I am not sure of the limits. They do allow one way bookings, so one of you can book the flight there, and the other can book the flight back for one person, and the other person will just need to buy a return ticket.

Return in Economy from "South West Pacific" to "North America" on partner airlines is 110k miles.. so 55k one way...

If you have at least 50% of the miles required for the intended trip you can top up at USD$40ish /1000 miles... (Ouch!)

Might be best to just look for a decent fare....as that top up for a one way fare would cost around USD$ 760.

I only need the flights 1 way, so its 55000 points per trip, the Air NZ flight from queenstown to LA on the 1st of Jan 2013 is $1600 per ticket so if i top up both of our points to 55000 it would be $840 each, this means im still nearly getting a half price fare correct? sorry im new to all this.

Also talking to singapore airlines is like pulling teeth, its extrememly hard to get someone that understands and can speak proper English. Does anyone else find this? thanks for all you help

Ah yes.... Sing-lish. It really is luck of the draw - i've had about a 50/50 strike rate with the SQ call centre. Half struggle whereas the other half are reasonably easy to speak to.

Just call back for another CSO. And to be fair, it is 'Singapore' Airlines.
