Hi Guys,

I have 160k point in KF. I am looking to redeem on the star alliance award instead of SQ beause of the limited availability using saver award flights to european cities.

What is the general rules here? I am looking to go to Santorini, which is JTR. I tried looking in the SQ Krisflyer website, but very limited information.

Would you be able to direct me where to look?
Does *A using MPM or segments? what is the stopover rules?

I am looking at using 150k points on
MEL-BKK- TG C
BKK-ATH- TG C
ATH-JTR- AEG Y

You have to call up the call centre for redemption for *A Awards. Or you can sign up free Aeroplan (Air Canada) program and use use their website to find flight availability on *A Awards.

I am also looking at JTR as my final stop to European trip and for most days you can only get there on A3 (Aegean) via Athens.

Did make a phone call to the call centre, and they offered me on the SQ +A3 (for the ATH-JTR) instead of TG.

Tax is a whopping $412.50!! and 70k miles in J class with no stopover.
using 777-300 from mel-sin
and 777-200 for sin-ath

extra 10k to have stopover in singapore plus extra tax and fees of $25.

Herman I am reading your post as I sit on the balcony of the Atlantis Hotel in Santorini overlooking the most breathtaking landscape / seascape you could ever imagine.

We actually redeemed J savers into Milan - spent 10 days there - paid flights to Athens then onto Santorini - then need to fly back to Amsterdam before headiing back to MEL.

Point I am trying to get at is if you keep searching on SQ you might get flights into other EU destinations then transit - if that helps - and you still get SQ quality of product - although I do understand a bit more time required.

:pwhooaa..... it would be nice to escape melb winter.

how do you actually get a J-saver to milan? did you book before they change the hard product to 77W?

..... imagining deck chair and perfect warm weather... have a great time mate..... !!

We booked these flights around xmas time I think - there was a 'glitch' in the Australian website at that point in time - right at the time they announced change to 77W - several others also secured J savers into Milan. It actually worked perfect cause we wanted to go to Lago Di Como first.

We booked 2 x J savers into MXP and 2 x J savers out of AMS. ATH / FCO etc were unavailable for return so I grabbed AMS when it was available. What lead time are you looking at?

1/ Yes the Savers to Milan were very nice and I did F going over and J coming back at Easter. However as mentioned it was a glitch and so I would not sit around waiting for an other glitch to happen to any particular desitantion.

This particular glitch stayed open fora while, but normally do not.

2/ *A J.
a/Two big advantages basically. Very good availability and particularly on Thai.
b/ That they are a lot cheaper than J Standards on SQ.

What am i missing here?

My reading of *A Award Chart shows J awards Aust to Europe at 150,000pts - SQ J Savers booked online 136,000pts or so.

*A J awards to China 135,000pts - SQ J savers into CAN 76,500pts. Am I totally misreading the *A Award Chart?

My post indicated Standard...and not Saver and the OP was about flying to Europe.

You cannot get J Savers to many destinations and so have to book at the Standard rate...or gulp Full rates if you want to go to those destinations. Hence to such destinations for me I would fly J *A redemption rather than Standard J Redemption on SQ.

ie
Melbourne to Paris;

SQ J Standard Return= 300,000 less 15%
Thai J Return = 150,000

SQ J Saver not available...but where it is to Europe is 150,000 less 15%.

So if I want to just go to Paris I would use Thai.

If I am happy to visit several countries I would look at say Amsterdam or Frankfurt....or a combo of say Thai to Paris and exit from Amsterdam (or vice-versa).

Ah ok - all clear now - personally I would play around with other destinations rather than use J Standard - everybody is different.

Herman please keep us posted as to how you proceed.

envy.... :D hahahahah...

I am looking on late september/early october.... shoulder/low season.

Thanks for the tips mate.

I might just book sq saver award J class to athens at the moment.
Then *A from Paris, on Thai leased 9W jet.

If travelling without my partner i might just follow your route going out from AMS instead.... :D

Enjoy the rest of your trip mate.... great view!

fly 5 times in a year?.....noicceeeee

My reference was to flying a family of 5 in Business Class as a group together....for holiday travel. Unfortunately I have don't have the leisure time for 5 trips per year.

Lately has been twice a year....but getting the seats can be difficult and often requires not all being on the one flight.

It is easier to do to Asia, but for flights beyond Asia it gets more difficult.

Not much to see here in Santorini herman - different day - different view - different cruise ships.........:p

Herman - we wandered around Santorini yesterday and had to tolerate this view whilst having a coffee:

Then we took the cable car down to old port:

And then of course we had to ride the donkeys back up to the top:

Finished the day off with the sunset cruise including buffet dinner - 4 hour cruise with ample food Euro38 - best value we have experienced since leaving Melbourne:
