I had an amex offer for buy $250 get $40 back on Qantas last year and I bought a $250 gift voucher.

Can I use it to pay taxes and fees on an award ticket?? If so, how do I do that?? I dont see an option.

Is this for a domestic flight? If so, book Y tickets with voucher and apply for upgrade to J. You will be upgraded instantly if a U fare is available.

I have no status with Qantas, and this is for Easter weekend and on SYD - PER on the A330, I say my chances are 0

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

You'd need the U space for awards though? If the classic award space exists you can upgrade immediately regardless of status.

The immediate upgrade is for domestic only (which of course SYD-PER is).

What you do is book Y. Once you get the e-ticket you then apply for the upgrade and you get it immediately if there are classic reward seats in Business available on that flight. If there are not then you get waitlisted till closer to departure when remaining upgrade requests are processed.

Shouldn't one also consider the cost?

Classic award is 41,500 points + $44

Economy then upgrade is at least $359 + 27,200 points

Well the $250 voucher is a sunk cost. So Kscf would need to consider what else could be done with the voucher and way up which is the best option.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I am actually flying with P2 from BNE and wanted to try lie flat on QF. With only 1 voucher, paying cash and upgrading doesnt seem like a good choice..

I will just book J outright and will find a use for the voucher later - its valid for another 2.5 years, I am sure I can find some use for it by then.
