I was just doing some flight searches on the Citi take flight web site and noticed they seem to give u 1c per point in terms of reducing the amount you pay.

When i booked a flight last month using points for a o/w flight SYD - LAX it cost me 47352 points + $173.28

Citi take flight will do the return flight for 85395 pints + $347.72 or 34772 points.

You can use from a minimum of 5000 points up to the full total.

You also earn 3 bonus points for any $ value that you pay for.

To me this seems to be a better deal as you also earn points on the fare.

Now i know there's a lot of people who will see this as poor value, but for mere mortals who prefer a free flight to an upgrade this seems to be a better deal than transfering the points to velocity at a 3:2 ratio.

You can buy the flight about $20 & 5000 points cheaper from VA direct, but I suppose if you add the bonus points of 3400 into the deal then it might work out still pretty good. It might also be a good option where if you transfer the points over you may not qualify for the free travel insurance.

Re: using Citirewards and Citi take flight better value than transfer points to Veloc

I'm tossing up whether to take advantage of Velocity's 25% bonus promo, but over recent years we had

- nearly missed the connection in Sydney because of understaffing. 2 staff were 'dealing' with a couple while our queue of passenges lined up. All the linede uppeople needed was a transfer shuttle voucher to international terminal;

- the 1 hour queue to check in at LAX;
- the 2 hour check in at MEL
- flight and date changes they made after selling us tickets. Then they expected us to waste a night in LA at our own cost to.

Is it worthwhile going back to Qantas??? Qantas went downhill, imo, but maybe they lifted their game?

Not having flown Dj very often I cant comment.

I flew VA last yr in PE has was VERY pleased with the service.

Am going over in Y this trip so will see how that goes. Am lucky enought to be silver so can at least check in at the PE counter so that might make the Q more bareable.

Even with the 25% extra points i still think the citi take flight works out better in terms og bang for points :)
