Can anyone relate their experiences using Asia Miles to get Qantas flights for less points, for instance 60,000 points instead of 80,000 points Sydney-Mumbai return.
Does it work well and can you rack up Qantas points too using Asia Miles membership instead of QFF?
What's the downside? is it harder to rack up points outside actual flyer points ?

Welcome to AFF jcraigie :)

Different programs have different redemption costs, but also different earn rates. I'm not familiar with the details of Asia Miles but suspect, for example, you wont earn 1000 miles on a cheap SYD-MEL ticket; as you would on QFF.

I'm also not aware of any aligned credit card issued in Australia. However most frequent flyer programs have the same or similar hotel, rental car, etc partners (ie quite an extensive selection).

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Welcome Jim.

Good question however I suggest that if it had been posted under "Your Questions" it would get a better viewing.

Just a thought :!: 8) 8) 8) 8) 8)

Amex will let you earn Asia Miles

I'm also not aware of any aligned credit card issued in Australia.

You can transfer American Express Membership Rewards points to Asia Miles, but it's not a good earn rate compare to Qantas:

2 MR points = 1 Asia Mile
1 MR point = 1 Qantas point

So if you have a Rewards Maximiser or Platinum card, for every AU$1 you spend you get 1.5 MR points = 0.75 Asia Miles

Which more than wipes out the better redemption rates for Asia Miles... got to stick with Qantas :?

Keep in mind that there are earn rates and there are burn rates. When the burn rakes look attractive, you also much consider the earn rates. The burn rates are published and the same for all members of the program. Earn rates vary according to a lot of criteria, including country of residency (for Credit Card earning), travel patterns, shopping habits, corporate travel policies etc. So there is no single answer that will be same for all people. For some folks Asia Miles will be an attractive program, while others will be better served with a program like Qantas FF.
