Use of QR codes for COVID-19 contact tracing in Australia

Our CHO has created furore, and likely bred non compliance now, when she dared to say she wanted to QR check in to remain permanently once this pandemic was over, as climate change would create more pandemics. It has brought out the anarchist in me, and others. We have to scan - everywhere, even at takeout counters where you dont go into a store, or at counters in malls.

Now you mention it, it's the same with me.
Ive noticed a distinct drop off in conformity the last week or so especially at Petrol stations.

We've often thought petrol stations and handling of the controls to be a risk factor as they are never sanitised from what I've seen.

The pumps and nozzles are meant to be cleaned regularly but I haven’t seen it too often.
I was sitting in my car near the entrance at one today watching for about 10 minutes and not a single person checked in out of about 20-30 that entered

I haven't generally been scanning when going into Coles/Woolworths or getting takeaway coffee. If sitting down to eat/drink somewhere, yes, but not for takeaway. Am I supposed to?

In SA we are supposed to check in for supermarkets - if I'm standing next to someone waiting for takeaway then I'll scan

Supposed to scan regardless of whether there is anyone next to you. That's what racks up the numbers.

To my understanding the need to scan for take-away is only a rule in SA and now WA.

In NSW you dont have to check-in if picking up take-away (assuming you have ordered over the phone, or ordered and waited outside until its ready so only inside for the time it takes to collect and pay) nor at supermarkets.

But I think supermarkets should be mandatory, as its the most common exposure site at least in NSW.

Yesterday I only needed to check in once and taht was at the Pub, Pub trivia is back :)

On Monday I only needed to check in at post office (had to go inside to pick up a parcel), no need for my takeaway coffee as cafe has a street facing order window, order, wait outside, got to window to collect.

There is not one place you can go to in SA where you don't have to check in. Even large gatherings at private homes over 50 people require their own QR check in.

My experience in Sydney is most places seem to have a QR code, but practically no one scans it at all. Except when dining in.

That is because unlike SA not required to check in unless dining in.

Well our experience in Sydney has been compliance with the QR scan has been good.I have seen a few instances of people walking past the QR scan but told to go back and do the scan..
Certainly better than in QLD where some of the restaurants we have visited in the last 6 weeks don't even have a QR scan visible.

From May 1, QLD is finally mandating that venues must use Check In QLD (which our Canberrans would recognise as a maroon version of Check In CBR) and can no longer use GuestHQ, PaperForm, SafeVisit, Google Forms, Microsoft Excel, tarot cards, or necronomicons.

Venues are starting to replace their codes already, I've noticed.

NSW establishments are very good at ensuring people check in. In SA the only place I've been asked if I've checked in, is our local bottle shop. No other place has asked.
