I have a B1 B2 visa issued in 1985 for multiple entry to the US with an indefinite validity but of course that passport is well and truly expired. Can someone confirm that it will be considered valid when presented with my currently valid UK passport ?

Good question, I would say no. My rationale being the document is no longer current and the visa is connected and part of that document.

But I have been been known to be wrong (according to various girlfriends over the years) ;):D

Never heard of an indefinite B1 B2 visa for the USA but normally if the visa is valid and the passport is expired, the visa will still be vaild. You just need to carry the old passport with you

Agree with this. My B2 is only 5 years - and this is my 4th one. I would be surprised if they honoured it post 9/11. Suggest you ring the consulate.

Thanks to your answers I can now answer my own question. Indefinite visas are no longer issued and those that were are considered valid for only 10 years.

Interesting answer. I can concur they were issued, mine also was early 80's, but interesting that indefinite now has a limit.

I also have a stamp in a (very) old passport giving me indefinite entry to the UK (English great-grandparent from memory). I understand that this is no longer offered but has got me wondering if this still holds, I was previously told it would but I had to also carry the old passport.

Glad you've got your answer now to your 1985 visa query.

Any recently issued 5 year B1/B2 visas are still, even in an expired passport but you must carry both the current passport and the old one with the visa in it.

What you can't do is have an ESTA in an expired passport and travel on the new passport as an ESTA must be in the valid passport travelled on as it's associated to the actual passport number. That catches quite a few people out.
