USA classic award itinerary – use the call centre to amalgamate to one booking?

Hello
This is my first post so please forgive me if I don’t get the language right. Also please forgive the long winded background.
I have booked Melbourne to London flights in business class on the website using frequent flyer points and then later used the call centre to add a London to Melbourne return. I couldn’t wait until the return flight became available to book at the same time as business class award seats go very quickly. At the time I thought there was a savings in charges that offset, the then smaller cost, of the call centre to add the return leg.
I’m now doing the same thing with a US itinerary which will be:
Melbourne –Dallas (Qantas)
Dallas – Calgary (codeshare)
Calgary – Boston (codeshare)
New Orleans – LA (codeshare)
LA – Melb (Qantas)
None of the legs are continuous. All are being booked using frequent flyer points.
The Qantas run flights and the codeshare flights become available on the website at different times. I’ll need to book the Qantas legs as soon as they become available because of the business class availability issue. We’re going to fly economy for the codeshare flights so availability doesn’t seem to be as big a problem for these flights.
My question is about having them all on the same ticket. Is there any reason to do that other than any variations in taxes and charges?
I’m a QP PS
Thanks
Davi

Welcome to AFF Davi.

The main reasons to have bookings on the one 'ticket' or "PNR" are to allow simply baggage connectivity and protection in the case of mis-connects.

If all your flights are at least a day apart then there really should be no issue.

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Thank you for the reply.

It seemed that should be the way it was but when you don't do it often it can be hard to tell!

thanks again

Thank you for the reply. ...
No problem.

Note that this is a reasonable strategy for award flights using QFF - it may not be appropriate for other methods.

Also, there is generally no way in GDS's to directly combine several PNR's into one. All that can be done is to use Ghost/Information/note sectors across each of the original records.
