Hi Guys

The divorce is now though and after 15 years I am a free man again. So there is a sudden urge to travel and I was wondering if I could get some advice on a Skiing holiday in the USA and Canada during Feb 2012. I am an intermediate / advanced skier.

My plan is to go and ski in Whistler for 8-9 days in early February, then have a few days off, fly to Denver and go to either:
1. Telluride; or
2. Breckenride; or
3. Aspen
For another 8-9 days.

Any advice on where to stay would be appreciated - a hotel room in the region of $200 per night, close to the slopes and town.

I am leaning towards Telluride as it seems to be a bit quieter and more relaxed. Thoughts?

Also I'd appreciate any advice from people who have been to either these places, from the perspective of a person travelling on their own (no family or friends coming). My aim would be to have fun, meet a few people on the way and socialise a bit. By no means am I any sort party animal or skirt chaser, but just looking to enjoy the trip and be sociable along the way.

I know that there are sites like meetup.com where people can meet with common interests. Is anyone aware of anything for skiers?

Thanks in advance

You'll love Whistler.

You can get some great lift/accommodation packages that can really get your per day price down.

Everyone drinks at the Longhorn right after the day and it's a very friendly social place.

Other good options are Big White near Kelowna, or Sunshine / Lake Louise in Alberta.

But in your situation - I stick with Whistler if you've never been there before.

Remember that British Colombia (particularly Whistler) is the 7th Australian state - so be warned in case your goal was to get away from Australians.

I'd consider Beaver Creek as well as Telluride. Colorado is expensive though - regardless of which resort.

You can also get a "Vail Pass" which gives you access to multiple mountains.

Also consider Utah.... Cold, real cold - but the powder is amazing, and generally cheaper than Colorado.
Snowbird / Park City.

Good luck and don't forget to write a trip report here when you get back.
