if VBA cannot deliver it through international routes then they will cease these operations and focus on domestic operations. I certainly hope that they suceed, I like having more choice.

Which is exactly the sort of argument they should be using with competition regulators one would think. Something has got to give, sure fares <$1K between US & Australia are unsustainable in the long run.

A combined DL/VA/DJ operation actually serves SYD/MEL/BNE with good domestic feeds at both ends a double daily between SYD-LAX, therefore mirroring, and becoming a much more formidable competitor to the QF/AA (vs DL with its single SYD-LAX service if VA pulled the pin). Of course there is still UA on the route to keep checks and balances and NZ, HA & AC indirectly.
