US Dividend Miles - post your SUCCESSFUL award bookings here.

SYD ICN LAX (stopover) HNL (destination)
HNL LAX ICN SYD . All on OZ and UA . I'm wondering if I'm on the QS Seats from SYD ICN LAX and return it says 777 I don't know . Taxes killed me $217.80 plus an extra $75 for some reason.

the ICN-LAX shouldbe the full flat beds. Depending on when you're flying SYD-ICN flights are now A330s - they might have changed that back when you're flying.

$75 might be a late booking fee (within 3 weeks of departure)?

What did they tell you it was for?

Departing late november on my us airways booking it says 777 hope so ! I'm taking my mum she says oh I don't want to go with Asiana I never heard of them she would rather go with TG

yup - it looks like they've gone back to a 777 from late november. Asian blows TG out of the water in terms of service, and if you get the full lie flats then it beats TG hands down as well.

You can select you seats and that will give an idea if the SYD-ICN is with beds. You should select your seats at the same time you ring Asiana to confirm they have a ticket number for the booking. OZ is one of the airlines that will happily cancel if they don't have a ticket number.

If these taxes are killing you then you might as well not fly ;) $200 odd dollars for a 6 or 7 sector flights is nothing (compared to say QF or SQ). I will happily pay $200 or so anyday, even for someone with a 6 digit bank balance, thats inclusive of cents :D

The taxes were nearly half of the fare ;) I actually got taxed
Reservation fee = $80
Dividend miles processing fee = $100
plus taxes

there is no reservation fee as your booking can't be completed on line. the award processing fee is correct at $100 for two bookings.

you just call them back and ask them to go over the fees for you. They will refund it once they realise it is incorrectly charged (or was HNL booked as a separate ticket?). There should have been plenty of options to get you to LAX without having to go economy. TG's SYD-BKK-LAX has been pretty wide open in business. Asiana also has a direct flight ICN-HNL these days, although I have no idea about availability. UA's F class to HNL will be a normal seatmuch the same as Qantas domestic business class.

Booked but not confirmed as I want to try something a little different.

SYD-BKK-VIE TG/OS C
VIE-JFK OS C
JFK-ICN-SYD OZ C

110,000 x 2. Taxes USD205pp + booking fee of USD50

Have booked for July 2013 and confirmed to:
SYD-BKK-FRA TG C (inc A380)
FRA-YYZ-ORD AC C (inc 77W)
ORD-ICN-SYD OZ C (would have thought that ORD-ICN would be flat beds but apparently not. Hopefully Asiania will have swaped this route by then.)

110,000 x 2. Taxes USD243 + booking fee of USD50

Basically very happy with the route and the carriers. Bought all the miles with double points promo and 100% swap bonus over the last year. Total cost inc taxes and booking of USD2046.75 each. A complete bargin.

Hi

I ticketed earlier this morning the following for 1 person:

SYD - BKK TG F
BKK - FRA TG F Stopover

FRA - ORD UA F Destination

ORD - FRA UA F
FRA - CDG LH J
CDG - BKK TG F
BKK - SYD TG F

Taxes were around $430 and miles deducted were 140,000.

The BKK to FRA leg on the a380 only showed 1 seat available so I ticketed for one person first,
I then tried to book the same itinerary for my partner hoping TG would release another seat
immediately but although United, Aeroplan and awardtravel all showed availability the rep could
still only find J class open so I have the flights on hold and im hoping TG open up another first
class seat in the next 72 hours so I can upgrade the booking at no cost.

First rep was fantastic I was on the phone for only 10 minutes and received all the reservation
codes immediately - I rang back around 30 mins later and spent 35 mins with another rep.
She had trouble finding the LH European leg but eventually got there and obviously could not
find F on TG920 but pretty happy with the booking.

I did look into flying back with OZ from ORD but although its 3 class from ICN to ORD it seems
to be only 2 class flying to ICN? Flying back to SYD from ICN would have proved a pain too and
the total flying time was pretty similar. Would have loved to try the OZ first class out but TG
and the new metal will be just fine.

Nice work robcuk . TG F 388's are available so good luck to those who get to fly the new bird. Luckily demand's reduced a little due to those "If it ain't Boeing, I ain't going" fan-bois who don't want to try these lovely planes out ;)

Thanks - I've had some luck in the past - last few years we have always flown EK, upgraded to J class with air miles and twice I've been upgraded to first - once on the a380.

With USDM I have experienced SIN & LH in J on the big bird so it will be interesting to compare products but I do love flying on the 380 it's a great experience and in my eyes or should I say ears it's significantly quieter. However I do miss that EK bar - not sure who I would fly with given the choice of EK or SIN as I thoroughly enjoyed both.

I checked Aeroplan again recently and the availability I noticed earlier has disappeared so fingers crossed it will show again.

I have booked my second trip with Star Alliance.

This itinerary is as follows all in J:
SYD - BKK - JNB (STOP - TG J)
JNB - CAI - LHR - LAX (Destination, MS J, MS J, UA J)
LAX - SYD (UA J)

Total points 110,000 (x 2)
Taxes: $465pp
Booking Fee: $50pp.

Taxes a little high from having to go through LHR but to get the intinerary I wanted had not much choice.

Total worked out to about $2550 per person total inc. exchange fees etc.

you shouldn't pay the high UK premium cabin tax if you are only in transit through the UK. You might want to double check with them.

Depends on how the coupons were put together.

I'm guessing that the JNB-CAI-LHR and LHR-LAX, especially on different carriers, would most likely ticket into separate coupons. Basically, it's just as good as if you bought those as separate tickets. In the eyes of the UK, that's good enough for them to charge APD.

I'm sure there's either got to be a way to rejig the coupons or some GDS tricks to make it look like a complete coupon.

If you are in transit - with connected flights in the same booking, then the tax doesn't apply.

HM revenue states:

The connected flights must be detailed on the same ticket or conjunction tickets to qualify for the exemption. Tickets can only be regarded as conjunction tickets if:
a. they are in one booklet, or
b. where they are in separate booklets:

  • each refers to the other and states that they are to be read in conjunction, or
  • there is a summary of the flights constituting the passengers journey including the flights in question.

HM Revenue & Customs

It is standard for US to issue multiple booklets that are to be read in conjunction with each other - as indeed is my next booking with them (2 ticket numbers to be read together for a single itinerary).
