DL, UA & AA + 4 US based aviation unions have published report investigating EK, EY & QR and are lobbying for abandonment of some open skies agreements due to alleged unfair subsidisation of the three gulf carriers.

Report published here: http://www.openandfairskies.com/wp-c...hite.Paper.pdf
Lobbying site: Partnership for Open and Fair Skies

Some news reports:

Basically the airlines are asserting that state capitalism (direct and indirect subsidies) in Qatar & UAE are threatening the US aviation sector and the government should terminate the open skies agreement with this.

A long (and probably the most amusing/frustrating/want to bang my head against the wall thread I've ever read on an airline forum) discuss an accusation that EK is a financial scam here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/emirates-skywards/1627541-emirates-financial-scam.html

It will be interesting to see what comes of this. I can't help but think the US big 3 are where European and Asian carriers and QF have been for quite a while.

The US airlines are free to seek their own state subsidies. Their government won't grant them. That doesn't give them the right to impose that policy choice on the rest of the world.

Evil USA. Bad USA.

What they are talking about is terminating agreements they have with other nations - not the imposition of policy "on the rest of the world" ;)
