Hi guys,
Just a quick question.

If I fly from the US to SIN in economy on EK or EY, do I receive the same baggage allowance of 2 x 23kg for the second leg if I take a stopover in DXB or AUH (and it is all on the one ticket)

With the US DOT exception to IATA resolution 302, your allowance for the first segment carries through the entire journey, irrespective of stopovers.

You allowance will be based on the Marketing carrier.

Without the USA DOT exception, the allowance is "per journey" and based on the operating carrier of the MSC flgiht.

Not sure 302 applies if it is all on a single carrier. I do believe though, that Emirates will allow two bags all the way through.

Yes, if all on the one carrier, 302 may not apply.E

Even before 302, many carriers permitted the best allowance for the entire itinerary if they were the sole carrier. "Most Generous" is how BA used to put it.

Thanks guys,
EK gave the 2 x 23kg allowance for both legs.

Cheers

Just as a point of interest along a similar vein, in 2009 I was returning to BNE from MIA on two separate PNRs....MIA - LAX (AA) and LAX - BNE (QF) both the cheapest of cheap fares I could find which were booked separately on the internet. I think I had an allowance of 2 pieces on QF and none on AA. At curbside check-in at MIA, I presented my MIA - LAX itinery and the guy asked if I was going further so I then showed my LAX - BNE itinery. He said "no problems, I'll just check your luggage right through to BNE and save you the AA luggage fees" (approx US$100 IIRC). I shared the windfall with him by tipping him $50 for his efforts (I also had no idea what was expected as a tip for curbside check-in). When I posted that story previously on AFF, someone advised that curbside check-in are not supposed to through check int luggage. Does anyone know what are the actual rules (laws?) regarding that, as I'd be keen to take advantage of that again some day?
