Hi All,

Any tips on purchasing one way fares from the US (west coast) back to Sydney/Brisbane? Looking for the second week in Jan 2014 and its coming up on the QF Site as ~$1,800 one way.

Cheers.

Unfortunately you've chosen one of the busiest times of the year to return from the US hence the prices being so high (absolute peak). There are on-stop options on some undesirable Chinese carriers for around $1,200 if you want to save some money and don't care about time or comfort but if you want to go QF in early Jan that's the price you have to pay. Award seats for this period are booked 330 days in advance.

Other airlines are United, Delta, Virgin Australia, Hawaiian & Air NZ

I know some people in the past have suggested buying a return but not returning - the return is usually cheaper than one way.

I got a fare back from HNL to MEL on 4 Jan on J* for $460 about 2 months ago. I am getting there from LAX for $260 on AA. I think a good deal for that time of the year.
