If you've already got the card, very little reason not to try to get those bonus points! Especially if Amex seems to think you're eligible.

The promo that started 9 August does have a 12 month exclusion though:

"The bonus Altitude Points or Qantas Points will be added to your points balance within 12 weeks once you meet the eligible spend criteria. Existing Westpac customers who currently hold an Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black credit card, or who have held one in the last 12 months, are not eligible for this offer. Qantas Points earned during a statement cycle are added to your Qantas Points balance on a monthly basis."

Different offer with different terms. The one above is for non-Westpac Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black credit card cardholders. This one is for current Altitude Platinum or Altitude Black credit cardholders.

This offer is to add on the Amex to an existing Visa Card as the old bank issued Amex was cancelled by the bank.

Does the Westpac Amex count as part of the Amex credit card limit of 2?
 
No. And there is no specific limit of 2. This is discussed in other threads.

Amex have a limit of 1 Charge and 2 credit cards per person. I am aware that certain Amex cards, e.g. the DJ Amex, do not count as one of the 2 so I was checking whether the Westpac Amex, which is now issued by Amex, counted or not.

I think that Amex do have a general 2CC limit, BUT that they allow some individuals a third either through error, glitch or by exception. Others have also reported recent success by cancelling a card to get the third CC and then asking for the cancelled card back with success too.

I had Edge and a Reserve, but to get the Explorer I was told by Amex on several occasions that I would have to cancel one of the first to get it. I even applied one to test it but still no joy till I cancelled. The Exploers is way too lucrative to not have and so I relented and cancelled the Reserve.

Bank issued Amexes were not part of 2 CC limit though, and this latest is still issued via a bank and so well may be not part of the 2CC limit.
 
I've applied for this deal and the MasterCard has already been approved. My wife will apply now. We might have trouble spending the $3000 x 4 in the next 3 months to get the bonus points. If we buy Woolworths Gift cards from Cashrewards, will this count towards the $3,000 spend on eligible purchases? It does say "Eligible purchases do not include ... cash equivalent transactions" but I'm hoping Gift Cards are OK.

That will work. Every cent we spend wth Woolworths goes via cash rewards first.

Yeah there can be glitches for sure. When I was offered a Centurion they said I can still apply for the Reserve without my Explorer or Edge getting axed. YMMV.

That said, I could have just gotten my partner to apply for the Edge and/or Explorer if I had to cancel - it's all combined spend anyway *shrugs*

Called Westpac and they read out my number to me (again, correctly), but I still wanted more details on why points hadn't swept across, so was transferred to the altitude call center. They advised that they didn't have my QF number on file and have now advised that points will come across automatically next statement. Very strange that the two systems don't talk to each other!!

Purchases at Australia Post would earn but not BPay .

Hopefully they don’t take long to post the bonus points although it mentions up to 12 weeks.
I am keen to cancel this card as soon as possible.

Rewards Points: The earning and redemption of Altitude Points and Qantas Points is subject to the Altitude Rewards and Altitude Qantas Terms and Conditions. Purchases that are not eligible to earn Rewards Points are set out in the Altitude Rewards Terms and Conditions. For example: payments to the Australian Taxation Office, cash advances, BPAY and BPAY equivalent transactions do not earn Reward Points. You do not receive points if your card account is in arrears for 2 consecutive statement cycles and in other circumstances.

I think you will find if you pay council rates directly over the phone - you will definitely earn points - they will appear on your monthly statement. They therefore must count toward the bonus points as earning points they are an eligible spend.

The process of getting my entitled points ( general spend not bonus - who knows how long they will take to issue bonus ) from this mob as been an absolute nightmare and a joke.You need to call them a number of times, get transfered from department to department and even get told it's Qantas issue to call them. They always come up with some excuse. Yet you get your Amex points immediately transfered to QF account at due date - amazing how only one application was needed for both cards yet one group can for fill their obligation but another reckons they cannot locate QF number or there has been some other issue in transferring. Then they tell you , "you will get them next statement"- why not immediately .If they know they have issues , which I would be certain they do , having spoken to an operator who acknowledged this ,they should address this immediately and let their customers know.

IMO not acceptable nor professional.

I think this is one for Banking Ombudsman to investigate.

This has happened to me multiple times in the past. The most recent time with St George, I raised a complaint and a Complaints Officer was assigned and they resolved it in a few days and got my points to me. But yes, 100% agree Westpac and St. George are horrible. I've been really careful recently and I called 3 times to check whether my FF number is assigned and that they switched on the promotion only to reach my spend and not see anything come through (hence the complaint raised)
