I've got a DXB/SIN flight on EK metal in Y that has been booked using the QF codeshare (QF ticket). I have the EK booking reference and am looking to open a Skywards account and transfer Amex MR into that account to upgrade to J. I can see there is J award availability for the flight I'm on. Is an upgrade actually going to be possible, or am I being a little too optimistic?

The Frequent Flyer Concierge team takes the hard work out of finding reward seat availability. Using their expert knowledge and specialised tools, they'll help you book a great trip that maximises the value for your points.

Wont work.... The ticket has to be issued by EK inorder to upgrade it. This was my experience back in Oct 2013.

Not sure if their policy has changed since.... You could try to upgrade in cabin (sky silver+) or check in? But its a waste if you cant.

I'd be a new member, so I won't have any status with them and I don't want to waste the transfer of 42,500 MR points if I can't use them straight away.

It's a double whammy as Qantas won't let you try for an upgrade on points either as it's on EK metal even though QF booking. Not that you were planning that. (We got an upgrade anyway :p).

Surely you would explain how you got the upgrade then... :-|

Just random luck at boarding gate. I don't know why. Full flight and QF status? Grovelling on bended knee? Who knows. Qantas would never have done it but Emirates seems to do it more frequently.

Ah OK. I guess I'll just have to see on the day. Thanks.
