Upgrading from J to F on A380

My concern with F is what seems like a lack of good seating for couples who want to chat.... but we'll deal with it if the situation arises. ;)

Interested to know how you know that there are "clearly quite a few WP and P1s in J"??
I'm just guessing from the seats taken in rows 11 and 12, which are supposed to be reserved only for WP and P1 (and CL, of course)...

In my opinion, well worth going for the upgrade. I have had 5/5 J to F upgrades on the A380 come through in the last 12 months, as a single traveller with WP.

But I agree, F in the A380 also makes one feel the Skybed II is much less comfortable when traveling back to BNE on the 744.... :)

Some say that this is an added benefit of travelling in F.

Just don't tell my wife that I said so.

Yes, but beware. J will just seem cough afterwards.

And you will later come to think that 5K was just a awful seat, terrible experience  Must get 2 or 3 A next time etc etc.

Exactly! I was a happy J flyer and not J feels like Economy to me :(

Have just applied for upgrade!!!!
Fingers crossed.
Anybody have any comments on odds of getting this upgrade?

Very high :)

Of course depends on the exact flight, but paid loadings in F are pretty low...

I've put in for an upgrade next month on QF11. I don't like my chances though. J cabin already 2/3 full and clearly quite a few WP and P1s in J and there are only 4 seats left in F.

I've put in for an upgrade next month on QF11 also... but right now F looks completely empty!
I'll be really upset if QF would fly with it empty than process upgrades for their loyal passengers

I am in the same situation, I am in J on a paid ticket and my wife is in F on a points booking, from my points, and I am trying to decide is it worth applying for an upgrade or taking the chance of waiting till at the airport ans seeing if I get an opup, don't want to waste the 60K points if I don't need to. Looking at EF it is pretty open in F on the flight, QF1 to LHR on the day, so trying to work out the best way to do it, I am happy in J and have a good seat in emerald class, so right above F anyway and we won't be sitting side by side anyway as the seats are single so is it really worth the cost in points?

To be honest I think you'd be mad not to. Dine with your wife in her suite or yours. You get to sit together for a good portion of the flight. My wife and I loved it. We did a RTW in first for our honeymoon last year. We went to London, Paris, New York, Las Vegas and Barbados over a month. You know what we keep speaking about? The F trips on the A380 on QF. My wife doesn't fly much. We got on the plane in LHR for the trip to JFK. My wife said "I thought we were in first". Heh. This was BA first and I had to explain to her that it was not as good :-) do it do it do it :-)

Yes agree. We just flew MEL LHR in F and then return in J. While F was nice for the first part of the flight dining and drinking, we did feel a long way away from each other once in our own suites. If you're tired and boarding at a poor time of day, I don't think it is worth it.

The things that do make it worth it though are the service (impeccable ex MEL), the ability to dine together and the existence of linen! If we had our choice again we may fly F the first leg and J the second.

It's worth it just for the fully flat seat. Everything else is fantastic. However you get used to it once you have done it a few times.

The J seat on an A380 still has a slight slope and I found it terrible on our recent flight from DXB-SYD. That was with the new sleep service.

It is very difficult to go to J again though. I can't bear the thought.

However my recent trip in Y from LHR-AKL was a lot worse. I am not knocking the product or service. (You get what you pay for)

It's just something I would never want to experience ever again as long as I live.

By all means. I've blown 75k points a couple of times to upgrade from discount Y to J on the same leg (744 not 380) and not regretted it.

I have an UG request in for QF1 DXB - LHR from J to F, so hopefully the travel gods smile on me that day (the pitfalls of only being PS so not sure how far down the UG ladder I am).

LOL Bossreggie Hear what you are saying but alas I do sometimes have to revert to the greatness that is economy due to limited funds :D

All donations greatly accepted and appreciated :D

serious Boss I t would be nice to have the funds as you do, it is nice to see that you do enjoy what you have and not squirel it like some other people I know. Life is way too precious not to enjoy it.

I would also agree with everyome you must do it atleast once in your life :D

I flew Y for the first time in 11 years in 2000 with 2 of the kids - we went SYD-LHR and when I got to Heathrow I phoned Mr FM in tears and said "I can't do this again I can't come back in Y". However we were building a new house and the money could be put to better use so after a few weeks holiday I calmed down gritted my teeth and did the return trip in Y. However that was the last time - long haul (i.e greater than 2 hours) is either J or F or I don't fly :)

Having not travelled below J on international for about 20 years, I'm bracing for a trip in Y with friends (definitely not FFers) to Europe later this year. I usually take a couple of temazepan to put me out. I think I'll need to graduate to Stilnox for this one (and no, not going via DBX!).

I'm thinking about selflessly volunteering to upgrade to J on the overnight legs so I can send some decent drinks back to them and on the basis that they won't miss me while we are all sleeping anyway. :)

If you have the points, your wife is in F, well, I just don't understand the hesitation?

Very wise, flying mermaid.

Last long haul Y I did with Mrs Paddy and 2 junior paddys was a RTW in 2006... home policy since then, fully complied with, was PE or above till 2009, and J or F since that time
