Upgrading from J to F on A380

If points are plentiful then, sure, upgrade.... but I generally don't bother on that leg given the night flight, etc, etc, etc

As some around know I am tall and big!! So for me I out the upgrade in both ways as some sleep on the way home does wonders and means after a shower at home I'm into the office before lunch..

over the past 3-4 years I would say I have a 65% chance of upgrade SYD to LAX, and about 15% on the way home (WP with around 2800-3200 SC's per year for reference)

Thanks guys

It seems some of us shares the same thought re. the 'value' of a F night flight (cf to a J seat).

I keep the request in as I plan to do some work on the day of return.

Maybe I will have a better night's sleep out of a F seat should my request be granted.

Fingers crossed (still F7 today) !

When I have upgraded to F from Australia to LAX and then thought about the return, I have always decided against. It's a night flight, as you observe, so there is less of a need for me for a F bed to help get some sleep. But mostly I think it's because I am flying home, with my own bed and home awaiting, so even if it's a coughpy J trip, everything is soon OK.

Your post worried me a little.

Waking up today on the US East Coast, I saw the favourite SMS on my phone screen - again.

Decisions once more !

I went for 5A this time.

I hear zero noise from 4A last time so I reckon 5A would be so private and quiet too!

1K, 2J, 4K is available but... next time !

I personally don't like 5A. I will usually go for Row2/3 as have always found these much more quiet.
Flew 5A to LAX the other day and heard nothing but crashing and banging from the galley.

I heard you - loud and clear.

2-3-4A all taken

Night flight, however .... not much galley activity expected there

Also, I always have my own noise canceling headphone with me - fresh battery each flight !

Failed SYD LHR upgrade (F cabin was full) but successful on the return trip !

The odd thing was 1A to 4A were all blocked on QF site, leaving me with only 5A (always like the A side).

I opened EF just to browse and saw .... all seats were open !!!!

A quick call to the Premium Desk sorted that one out.

A 'bug' they said.

So, if in doubt please check with EF as well.

2A on this occasion for me

This sort of upgrades would help tangle me with QF for some time yet.

Great reading all these threads, I have a points upgrade from j to f on QF 11 Syd- Lax early May and by all these comments it looks like I will miss out being lowly gold , never mind will keep everything crossed, put the request in 6 months ago don't suppose that would make any differance would it for the two of us? Also our travel day is a Wednesday.

I don't think it matters how far in advance the request is. The downside is that there are two of you but on the upside you are above bronze and silver and a Wed wouldn't be the most popular day.
Good luck :)

Congratulations :) I don't know if there's anyway that could come to the attention of the Upgrade Fairy but if she hasn't heard about it then it could do no harm to mention it at check-in.

Will try anything, the best part is MrsBobe thinks we are in Y+ getting into Jwould light up her eyes, so imagine getting up front, thanks for the advice will make sure I get out my best aftershave on and give here the works at checkin, thanks again.

Haha I'm totally not an 'F' person, and I felt like a total fraud turning left boarding QF9 last December. I also felt underdressed and like I should have perhaps a leather briefcase rather than my average backpack to go on my budget trip. Then again, previously I hadn't flown anything above premium economy. Skipped business and went straight to first! (No J seats available close to xmas on AA award).

However, definitely didn't stop me and didn't ruin the experience at all. I had to ask them to stop topping up my wine glass so attentive was the service that I was getting more than a little tipsy. Food good. Drinks EXCELLENT. Experience YES!

Quite honestly the best travel experience I have ever had! and QF First on the A380 is certainly world class!
