upgrading a points flight?

can i upgrading a qantas points flight? When i go to upgrade the option give me an error saying i cant upgrade the flihgt, but if the business class seat is avaliable on the flight when i check in or a few days before, i guess there should not be a problem if i rang and ask them?

Classic award flights cannot be upgraded using points.

Although - you can ring up, pay the change fee and the difference in points if you want to upgrade provided there is a Business award seat available.
