Hi,

I'm a newbie Diamond HH member (via Virgin Australia Platinum status).
Are there any rules of thumb in terms of room upgrades for a Diamond, for instance, if I book the Sydney Hilton for a 2 night weekend, using the current 20% off special (Advance purchase) and get the basic room. Is it likely the room will be upgraded - and if so - what might it be upgraded to ? Is it usually one "class" higher, or more ?

Thanks

It has been a little hit and miss for me on room upgrades, I took the status match in December, but the one guarantee is Exec Lounge access. (Where there is an exec lounge of course.) The free internet and free breakfast is mighty fine. I re-qualified last week and am very happy with Hilton.

In the UK where there has not been an exec lounge the upgrade has been to a deluxe room, with two bottles of water, chocolate, quarter bottle of wine, dressing gown, and better amenities.

Others have a lot more experience and I'm sure will be long to give you a lot more info.

I have been upgraded to a suite as a Diamond for almost all stays recently.

However I wouldnt bank on it and if there was a "need" for a suite or better room I would be booking it or speaking to the hotel - helps if you are staying there already.

I think there is a difference in treatment between Diamonds with no hotel or HHonors history and diamonds with either hotel or HHonors history. I am treated very well now at Hilton South Wharf - better than when I first went there about 10 stays ago...

That mirrors my experience, I only have a couple of stays there and have not been overly happy with HSW on both occasions. Hilton Bromsgrove in the UK treat me very well!!!!!

ADL is my most frequent Hilton, never had a suite. HSW is the 2nd most frequent and had suites many times.

I hope that Hilton see that I am an earned Diamond as opposed to a status matched Diamond when it comes down to choosing me over someone else for an upgrade

I think the Adelaide Hilton is a law unto itself. My last visit saw me give a smoking room, then a standard room and finally a suite. I think a few AFF'rs have not had the best experience there.

It's my understanding that via OnQ they can see exactly what bookings you've had within the Hilton family. I'm sure that they can choose to look to what your commercial value is to Hilton (that's all in OnQ as well).

As to whether it results in a higher likelihood of an upgrade, that remains to be seen.
